The Greek theology tells of Elysium and Tartarous which are very similar to the Christian Heaven and Hell. Elysium which is the pleasant Elysian Fields part of Hades, is the place in which mortals related to the gods and heroes reside after death. It also includes those mortals chosen by the gods for their righteous behaviors on Earth. Tartaous which is the dark dungeon of Hades, is used for the torment of those who are judged and need to be punished in the afterlife. Most mortals however reside after death in the Asphodel Meadows of Hades, which is the place for those mortals who lived a balanced life of good and evil.

There are many pagan theologies that have places in the afterlife that are similar to the Christian Heaven and Hell. Those who created the Judeo/Christian theology heard these different stories and adapted these places into their belief system by creating similar ideas of places which they called Heaven and Hell.

As for the Devil/Satan/Lucifer he is a Judeo/Christian concept of the ruler of Hell. Pagans have rulers of their underworlds as well however they are not the big meanies that the Judeo/Christians make the Devil out to be.

The devil to many pagans is the embodiment of temptation. As in the tarot the devil card represents our harmful impulses. Simply put the devil is a human construct to signify our own actions that are not in our best interest.

The truth is rather you believe in him or not is erlervent to him his job is to keep you from getting where you need to be with god. Have any of you ever 2 movies called: The Rite and Devil? If not you really should! It really makes you understand a lot. The Rite is based on a True story. From what I can tell the devil does not like to not be believed in and best to believe he has many was of showing you he's very real. The Rite shows you this. Yes, its true that pagan religion was way b4 Christain religion becuz Jesus was only born on earth 2,000 yrs ago but even B4 then he was still in the Hevens wit his father. The devil was kicked out long b4 life formed on earth. But any way, b4 any of the religions came into play God was the only God that was worshiped! the reason why all the other religions formed was becuz there was a group of people that didn't like way god runs things. So then they started going they own way thinking they new what was best for themselves. Have we shown God that we can do it without him? I don't think so lol!

I think that the definition of paganism has become so muddied that I would hesitate to ever use such a blanket statement as "Pagans don't believe in the devil" Even if you could specify exactly what constitutes a pagan, it is up to the individual what they believe. Making generalizations like that usually just ends up irritating people and causing arguments.

I'm a Ceremonial magician.
I call myself a Kemetic Pagan, but I don't call myself a witch. I believe in heaven and hell on the Astral plane and I believe the Devil is something that has been brought into being by christian belief (Think super servitor)...
