Some movies have real info on magic related things while the rest are just off-the-wall fake.

Sometimes they do tend to hide little tid bits of truth but for the most part they over dramatize it, glamorize it, and add in too many special effects lol. However it is meant for entertainment and not really going to be based on factual study.

Script writers will often put in bits of the Craft they have read about. But one must never forget that these shows are for entertainment. They are not true, and not meant to be true!

haven't seen those, but in Practical Magic i like how they depict the characters and the religion, but how they show the magical work, it's Hollywood, showing real magic would bore people and wouldn't have much of a story. if you haven't seen it, the main plot that drives the story, the two main characters kill a man and bring him back to life, only to kill him again because he comes back as something dark an unnatural, so they bury him in the garden, but his spirit is still trying to posses the sister he was dating. [and abusing, hens why they killed him] there are some things here and there that wouldn't work [though i wished did] but one of the first spells you see cast is a love spell where she takes petals and creates the perfect guy so she can never fall in love [watch the movie] and i can sort of seeing that one working [not with the floating CG petals] since it took years for them to meet and all.

in conclusion the religion was handled well, the spells not so much.

I think we also have to remember that these people are just trying to tell a story for entertainment. I see so many people blaming movies and literature for a largely magically uneducated bunch especially when they come asking for help on how to fly/teleport/fireballs, etc. We can't blame industry for trying to entertain, the complete truth would make for a boring movie or book to most. I honestly don't think we should be pointing a finger about that kind of thing as children will be children and tend to believe things easier than adults (sometimes). I'd rather help someone understand what magi is really about than persecute them. This is slightly unrelated in some senses, but I went on a little rant haha, forgive me.

No, it's the people who don't bother to learn. Like I said, you can't blame Hollywood and we shouldn't blame the naivety of those people either. We should be teaching.
