its not that hard to call your spirit guide, meditate, you can conjure them, you can even do what the indians did to find their spirit guide. Go on a journey of courage (if you want to, this is dangerous) where you walk around half starved to death waiting for your spirit guide to appear. It is said in a time of crisis your guide shall point the way.

And to aide you and your spirit guide's connection, as in if you want to communicate with them, use eve oil as an annointment for your candles or your incents or even place on your third eye chakra.

you place apple blossoms, dried pomegranate seeds, and snake root into a bottle.
then you fill that bottle with sweet almond oil and jojoba oil.

I would say that simple meditation is the best way to contact your spirit guide. Seek and ye shall find. Otherwise, your guide may only show up in a time of great need.
