I think most people argue because they think they're not thoroughly getting their point across and that they want the other person to change their opinion. I've done it before, we all have...

Debating is healthy, arguing is counter-productive in my opinion. In the case of vampires (since it was mentioned in the first post), I consider the term nothing more than a label given to someone that draws energy from an outside source that has been blows up and canabalized through fantasy and even more so on this site due to the aversion to using any term that has been used in well-known fantasies.
Whether or not people agree with me or not is not my concern, but simply stating my opinion to the person asking the question to let them know my views on the topic. If someone disagrees with me, I refuse to let their attitude digress the forums from the original post, but I am always more than willing to debate opinions and theories in PMs.

Thunor it's "semantics". ;) Zebrah pointed it out to me in one of my threads, the mispelling of that word is getting out of hand.

I don't really see that there is much point in forums and chatter for discussion, simply for us all to sit around agreeing with each other. Our points of view are there for us to assert. Let's assert them! :)

ok, all I see in the start of this thread was an argument because you basically started it with a response to two sets of people, who do not agree, and you know thats always going to be the case as you also pointed out, so what was the point in this thread? Healthy debate, argument then depending on the view it can be all true, so lets just learn to agree to disagree, and learn of what people say and take it on who was right by which works best for that person by experience, apologies for mis spelling and grammer, not perfect.

The point was to show how that Arguing should be avoided, because chances are, you will not turn the other party's mind. Opinions are great, and there are not many things that can be "proven" in the most technical sense. Just, sometimes debate on a topic turns into a biting argument.
