Your talking about semantics, and like I said differences in belief occur. Many people associate the correlations between dark magic as synonymous as negative or for the lack of better words, evil. Through out time evil or negative magic has been called by many names but most commonly dark magic was preferred. It really depends on belief. If you believe otherwise make your beliefs known but don't argue over someone elses. It's only until recently that magic has ben construed and dissected into many aspects or types, For centuries dating back to at least the Salem Witch Trials, magic was either described at light or good magic and dark or evil magic.

I am talking about reality. Darkness is not evil, and if a member wants to think that, let them decide on their own.

I actually find it strange how someone who is supposed to have a respectable amount of knowledge is still considering things so basic.

I tend to not view negative as evil, either. Merely the opposite end of the spectrum as positive.

A battery does not necessarily have a positive side and an evil side. ^_^

I don't believe dark magic is the same as negative magic or black magic but in this post it suits the purpose of conversation. There is a point where understanding somebody is lost to the rhetoric involved in intentionally parting yourself from their views. We are using the english language so maybe if you were debunk his definition of what dark magic is you should consider the english language evolves, and right now he's communicating very well with the words. Even the word magic means different things to alot of people. some people think it's all negative. I personally see your arguments as negative as well as my own be they functional or nonfunctional they're negative. We explore more the definition of negative and dark before addressing them as they are completely unrelated.

I see from your bio, Stonehog, that you may be a little personally biased in your view. Lol.

many magick practitioners identify magick as a symbolic color to specify themes such as herbal (green), death (black), healing (white), sex(red) ect... some also identify magick as white or black to identify the forces used such as entropic force, either, and negative energy(can be but not always induced by vindictive passions/emotions) as black; or neguentropic forces, ethereal, and positive energy as white.

on this website for some reason there is this phenomena where this quote "magick has no color" has been flooding the minds of many, that quote is foolish and ignorant to me, as if in magick everything is literal, as if in wording everything is literal. does blackmail mean your mail is black ? Is a blue collar job, a job where you wear a blue collar? If someone is black listed, are they the black person on the list, huh?

Personally I don't classify any acts of magick by the intentions of the wielder however, that the wielder's intentions reflects his or her personal ethics and morals which attributes to that persons character.

I do use the term black magick and white magick usually in context of the two primary forces of the cosmic universe which are positive and negative which i believe is best represented to the simplest of minds, by the yin and yang symbol.

In general magick the color black is usually associated banishment, drawing away of energy, and chaos. White is usually associated with healing, peace, and order.

magick is not science it is a belief just like many other metaphysical religions. In the history of magical practice symbolism has always been used to associate with the spiritual, the Moon, Diana; A flame, life; wolf, leader/earthly; clouds, astral realms...

Yes, Magick is not a literal color but magick dwells in colors, magick dwells in sounds, magick is in scents, magick in flavors, in you and i, in all things

Very unique and interesting perspective. I actaully agree with most of your post. Really original post was a starting point, not a conflicting debate over beliefs as I stated as much. My own beliefs don't necesaarily reflect everything that was written, it was merely a guide for those who are new, and needed a place to start on SoM and the Craft in general. Minds are to be expanded and filled with ones own beliefs, this was merely a template to get ideas and thoughts rolling.

Thank you Forte,

I don't get why people flip when someone says dark magic or something similar. They are using the term not as a definition, but as a term of understanding. I am not saying in anyway magic has a color or is good or evil because it is not, but people can can either write something like "dark magic" or they can write "magic with a ill-intented effect on the target or of a insidious nature". Which one is easier to type and is easier for people on a general level to understand?
