That depends on how well you can lie to yourself and how analytical you are.

The more your mind is a "calculator or analyzer" the less possible you are able to shapeshift. Now keep in mind your form doesn't change, your perception and how you view your form does. Like if someone was to view you after you shapeshifted into a bear, you'd feal a bear, act like a bear, have the strengh and ferocity of a bear, but your physical self would be human.

You would also be afflicted with what I've called "carnal knowledge" which means carnal instincts are moved much higher on your thought processes and heck you'll probably even forget english for the time being and utter growls. There's a mental "change" that takes place from human to carnal.

I myself tried a weeklong shapeshifting ideal I made on my own and did on my own. Some how and for some reason I was able to transform to a wolf (from wisconsin and we got a lot of timberwolves so maybe it was a bit easier then usual.) My friend got me on his old vhs recorder and although I moved kinda akwardly, running sort of on a lean or side, I was able to run on all fours much, much faster then I had ever been able to on 2 legs haha.

The whole point, is that it is a subjective change, not an objective change.

Zebrah doesn't like my whole wrap-around-describe-the-purse-of-the-woman-who-just-walked-by style of discussing topics. *tears* :P
