Do a ritual. They help. A spell inside a ritual adds power

Depends what you are casting a spell for; and what effect you expect it to have. I was being trained in witchcraft with a personal teacher, from the age of fourteen. I didn't cast a spell until I was over 30 years of age. You can never really tell if a spell has "worked" or not. Sometimes it is immediate; sometimes it can take months, even years! Most spells are "healing or protective" spells. Trying a spell to change the colour of your eyes,or to grow taller, or turn into a wolf,is never going to work!

There are spells to aid the natural process of losing weight, but you have to do the bulk of the work. No one aids those who don't help themselves. A spell like that for example, will give you oportunities to burn more calories or help to curb a needlessly large appatite or even motivate you to lose more. It won't actually burn more calories if your body is not doing anything to facilitate that.

Yes, it is quite possible to "think yourself thin". It is auto-suggestion, and it does work!

Magic is in accordance with will. If you cast a spell and do nothing to achieve the effect beyond that, then you aren't putting forth effort. Think of it as a wave you are sending out to case an effect, if you are working at a synergistic wavelength your effect will come out alot better.

Not that I'm saying this is what you Are doing, but if you Were to eat unhealthy and be inactive dispite the spell there would be no results because the energies would be conflicting and self canceling.

If everything we did magicly effected the physical world in a Large way like that, you'd see much more DnD style magics in the world. Magic is a subtle thing, and it works best as an aid in some situations instead of as a treatment.

As well, one needs to have faith in ones self. Absolute faith in ones own spirit and capability (without forgoing the need to continue learning or fostering arrogance) is (imo) extremely important, without loving and having faith in the self one cannot achieve anything. Especially magic.

Magick has it's roots in the subtle (non-physical) planes of existence. It is not about pretending or auto suggestion (though the latter can help psychologically), but it is about the energy (that is subtle) aiding that which is physical. If you really expect Magick to do everything for you, of course it is going to feel like 'pretend' when it does not work the way you want it to.

If you really want to learn Magick, study up on different culture's history and see how they saw the universe. Then, take some time to understand how these spells work. This differs for most people, but understanding it on your own terms goes a long way towards making things work.

Essential Wicca by Paul Tuitean and Estelle Daniels is a good book for basics in how things work (I mention this because this thread is in the Wicca forums). It applies to more than the Craft and will help you understand that maybe you aren't doing something wrong, it's rather that you don't see what you are already doing.
