I have red a lot about vampires and I think the term "vampire" got it's modern status right after the novel "Dracula". Today the term "vampire" is in it's post modern state and it often provokes heavy arguing. You just have to consider which meaning is the person thinking about.
Bram didn't really make the stuff up, he researched the folklore of southern Europe. Pre-Dracula vampirism existed and still exists though I dislike calling those entities "vampires", I wrote the reason above. In the folklore they are called strigoi, the legend is still very much alive in many countries so it can't be ignored just because some irishman wrote a novel, after all there are scientific researches from German doctors from 17-18th century about these entities. Anyhow these energy/blood/etc draining entities were often considered demonic because of their powers that indeed were transformation, levitation, strenght; but they were undead and needed those forms of energy to stay half-dead or undead. They also had something to finish before they died so they returned, or they were so wicked when alive so they returned to be more wicked in their death. There were also certain ways of death that would transform you into this being.
Special types of people were chosen to hunt them.
As someone wrote the legend is very old from Egypt, Persia, Greece, China through Europe to America.

P.S. I did not make this up. You can agree or disagree but I have facts and will not make this an argument. If you have a different opinion that is your right, I won't mind just don't flame me because of it.

If you want to learn about real vampires go to:

vampirewebsite.net

However be careful, some of them can be belligerent towards you. Unfortunately there are no rules on the website's forum such as no harassing, mocking, or threatening other members like on here.

Yes, I understand this might be in the post somewhere, but I'll still like to state my ideas.

As far as I heard, you can only be born as a Vampire. If your thinking about the type that drinks blood then your right. But this isn't much of a grand thing to become. It is called Porphyria and I found a good site here... Porphyria: The Vampire Disease That Started The Legend it is a very good read.

Now that you know you have no hope to be a "Real" vampire, I can tell you some other ways to be a "Sub" vampire.

You can still drink blood if you really want to be a "Sub" vampire. Yeah blood has energy so you'll be stealing their energy. But there are also other things in the blood like viruses and parasites. Also add in the salty taste that you may not enjoy. Not only it's not smart, but not very healthy.

Another way to be a "Sub" is by taking their energy in another matter besides blood. This is known as Psi Vampires. Now a days people use this more then just saying vampire. All it is is that you just take their energy by touching their skin or putting your hand over their skin. I am not going to teach you how to do this because there are places on the site you can learn it. But the basics is that you steal their energy without them (if they don't do the energy training) noticing it. There are pros and cons to this tho. The pros is that you don't get tired very often, you can keep running/walking if your about to pass out (I have done this when I was walking to a friends house, but not towards people but to plants), or just get a rush out of it. There maybe more pros but I don't want to list them all. Cons, the person your taking the energy from will be tired, depressed, and act differently. Yes you'll be happy, but you'll be taking away someone elses happyness will doing it.

I have heard a few people saying "Once you feel the energy and the rush, you cannot turn back from it." It is far from true. Whenever I need energy I might take some from the Plants and even some friends when they say it is ok. I never had a hard to doing other things while thinking I must get more energy. If you do then your trying to hard to be something your not.

And the last, is just saying your a vampire. Just hide from the sun and don't talk to very much people. Yeah some may think your Gothic or Emo, but you'll still get the vampire title you wanted so.

Hopefully I didn't lack too much info and was helpful to those that don't want to do what I done, read all the 5 or so pages to find a good useful read.

P.s. I don't support wanna-be-vamps.

*Facepalm*.

You can not become a vampire. And any spell that say so are false. So are spells to become a fairy, mermaid and so on.

Firstly, you havent done your research. If you were that interested, you would research a little, correct? Then you wouldnt need to as a question like ''do vampires really have red eyes?''. Learn before you decide to practice and change.

You can only be born a vampire, not become one. Sorry to dissapoint you.

And no, they do not drink blood either. They drink off psi/chi, etc. I dont know where the blood myth came from? But yes, when you awaken you go through a series of bloodlust, because blood is a form of chi, in a way, which explains that.

*This is why I hate twilight-.-*

i am not sure if i myself am one, cause my body does produce energy, but sometimes i need to take energy from other sources to do either magic, or sometimes just moving. normally i can produce enough energy myself though.
