Basics:

Meditation, visualization, grounding/centering and energy flow/control.

Those are the main ones to start with. Depending on path will determine what others you will continue to use, however when just starting out it's suggested to also learn chakras, elements, tools, days, colors, moon phases and shielding and/or circle casting. The reason I mention these are, even though not everyone uses them later on in their path, they are helpful when starting out for an extra "boost" so to speak. They already have programed energy attached to them stating that they do this that and the other thing, so when starting out..does it hurt to have a little extra something behind you? ;)

As far as spells...well I honestly wouldn't worry about it til you have your basics down.

The best to start with is meditation, then the visualization, then grounding/centering, followed by energy flow/control IMO.

Grounding is ridding yourself of excess and/or negative energies and bringing in energies from the earth.
One way to do it is to go outside barefoot and imagine your toes are roots, going deep into the ground. Imagine your energy going into the ground and with each breath in, allow the energy of the earth to come back up through you.

I agree although I do suggest visualization and meditation practically at the same time; as the importance of meditation versus the easiness and significance of visualization.

ok. so how does one know when one has acheived visualization or meditation? i know it sounds kind of silly but i wanna know how a person feels once they've achieved a state of meditation or visualization.

True Lady Snow....it's actually quite difficult to do meditation without some form of visualization lol

Meditation is being in the now. Focusing on one thing, be it your breath, relaxation, or nothing. When we meditate, we feel calm, relaxed, clear, focused, ect.

Visualization..well. Close your eyes and picture a pink pony.

You just visualized. It's not a state of being, its controling ( or allowing your spirit to control ) the images you see while in a different state of mind.
