Sorry for the double-post! Just a typo. It means "Sea of bitter sorrow and torture." My parents picked it because it sounds nice o_O Both parts of my name have many different meanings.
well i dnt rlly like the idea of rebecca meaning a "snare"....also meaning "bound"/"tied" [this name coming from the Bible in the christian perspective] ....and of course, my nickname,Becky is just derived from rebecca.....so i wonder what exactly is a "snare"???
My full name is actually Romia; Mia is just a nickname. The meaning of Romia in my language is "Blossoms"; it also have other meanings in different languages. Mia means "Mine" in Italian and it also means "Sea of bitter sorrow" in some other language(which I got no idea what that means).
The name Rowan is of Gaelic origin, and its meaning is "red-berry tree".
I chose it beacuse of what it meant to me. When choosing my name i wanted somthing that not only fitted numerologically and described my personality but one that would bring me closer to nature and to my godess.
In Scandinavian myths, the first woman was formed from the Rowan tree and the first man from Alder tree. The red berries of the Rowan were considered sacred by most cultures and are symbolic of the forces of creation - blood, life, death and renewal. The old peoples of Ireland believed that the Rowan possessed the power to restore lost youth and was guarded by serpents and dragons. They also associated Rowan with Bridget and Brigantia whose arrows were made from Rowan wood.
In Aegean/Mediterranean myths, the Rowan is connected to a tale about the drinking cup of Zeus, which was stolen from Olympus. An eagle was sent to recover the cup and a battle raged with the creatures that stole it. The legend has it that wherever a drop of blood or feather fell during the battle, a Rowan tree subsequently sprouted.
