Black Shucks(Hellhounds)

Sounds more like you saw a Saluki which is a sighthound that was originally bred in Arabia to hunt gazelle. They're lovely dogs and almost identical to what you describe.

Thank you! THIS is why I uncovered this thread. It isn't easy to find this stuff out online with just a basic image in your mind unless you can find people out there who've seen the same things you have. And this was the only tread of around seven that had anything on a black shuck or shuck like animal.
