See'ing a white SP

I'm sorry if this isn't the right section, however my friend has asked me several questions recently that I couldn't answer.
He had a friend who seen a White Grin Reaper type Shadow person right before someone in the family passed away.
Then a year ago he seen it as well. He explained it to me as a white roped figure, the face wasn't showing and it had a glow. I guessed it may had been the Messenger of Death or so? But he said a year has past and nothing has happened. I don't know what do tell him,
Could someone possibly tell me what this could be?

Thanks so much!

My relatives tend to see previous relatives who died before them coming to greet them to the spirit world near the last hour of their lives. That is the only thing I have heard of that resembles this experience.

They are called psychopomps. Some people have the ability to see them. They look many different ways. My mother in law has seen them and has predicted many deaths in her own family by seeing very vivid physical apparitions. It's interesting to mention that she is deaf from birth. They always say that our other senses are heightened when we have one that is crippled. My mother in law is heavily reliant on sight and I believe that makes her sight more sensitive than most.
