Pentacle and Pentagram?

Hi everyone! Recently I've been wondering what the difference is between a pentacle and a pentagram. I know that a pentagram is usually connected to Satan while a pentacle isn't. Can anyone clear this up for me?

A pentagram is a five-pointed star. A pentacle is a pentagram within a circle.

While it is true that some Satanists use the symbol of an inverted pentagram or pentacle, not all do. And both symbols are also used in other spiritual paths as well. In fact, in early Christianity the pentagram represented the five wounds of Christ. Nor is the inverted pentagram/pentacle used solely in Satanism. In traditional Wicca is represents someone who has attained the Second Degree.

no pentagram is connected with Satan, or even the pentacle. But it represents earth, air, fire, and water, and the circle means a lot of thing, like protection.

The most common association of the five points of the pentagram are actually Earth, Air, Fire, Water AND Spirit . In the pentacle they are all held within the circle of Creation.

I have also heard the Pentagram (on it's side) being used to represent Jesus's crucifixion. The two points on the top represent the nails in his hands, the two points on the bottom representing his nailed feet, and the side point representing a slice to the side of his abdominal.

Besides that, Lark's explanation was spot on.

never heard of the Jesus representation, but symbols can be used by anyone for anything really. Lark explained everything pretty nicely. the only difference is the star in a circle or by itself.

@ goddessdiana, while it can be used by Satanists, it's not exclusively a symbol of Satan. also [again Lark said it] the inverted pentagram where the fifth tip points down is for Satan, it represents the ram/goats head. [nose down, two horns and two ears make the stars points] it's not exclusive as it's been used throughout history for many things, but commonly, the elements. as i said, symbols can be used by anyone, example, the reversed crucifix, many Satanists use it to represent the anti-christ, but it's the symbol of the pope. [Peter to be precise, he was the first pope and was crucified upside down]

Mosts Satanists don't believe in Satan either. Many of them are atheists.

And of course the neither the pentagram nor the pentacle is evil. It's a symbol, nothing more. And it has held many meanings over the centuries.

The pentagram was actually used to ward off evil, not attract it.
