Kundalini meditation

I would like to do a kundalini meditation, but I've heard it can be dangerous because a huge flow of energy could erupt and cause serious damage. Is it safe to do one, will I notice a difference afterwards, and what changes should I expect, if any?

If you can't handle it you usually aren't drawn to it, or you get discouraged if you do things right and realize it will take more time than you thought. The trouble is, what is written about it, even about energy control and workings leaves much out. With meditation one can awaken inner wisdom to fill in the blanks, but patience is important. It is not something you do, but something you become, and most people can't relate to that.

there is a post on this somewhere in my coven made by my lovely high priestess.

"Kundalini Sanskrit, literally "coiled". In Indian yoga, a "corporeal energy" [1] - an unconscious, instinctive or libidinal force or Shakti, envisioned either as a goddess or else as a sleeping serpent coiled at the base of the spine, [2] [3] [4] hence a number of English renderings of the term such as 'serpent power'." -Wikipedia

"Kundalini is a Sanskrit word meaning either "coiled up" or "coiling like a snake." There are a number of other translations of the term usually emphasizing a more serpent nature to the word - e.g. 'serpent power'." -Crystalinks found by lord erebus

the rest is was made by my priestess in my coven

"Yes - kundalini is often drawn as two snakes rising up coiled around eachother. The reason for this as it is believed that the biggest source of energy is coiled up at the bottom of your spine. When relased, it fills you with powerful energy that can be focased into your will i.e. : magick.
Kabbalists may call it 'the serpent fire' - the foundation of our conciousness so that when kundalini moves through our bodies our consciousness necessarily changes with it - or the 'dragon' which awakens the sleeping self. Generally in the west, there is an inconsistencey in our aweness of such potent energy and its role in esoteric practices.
Before I begin on awakening this, it seems fitting to go through any risks. - The problems that can arise from misuse of kudalini are: excrutating headaches, unbearable sensations of heat, extreme anxiety and psychosis.
So why am I posting about it? Probably more for educational perposes, however these risks are the prices paid by many who stressed their minds and bodies in over stimulating practises. More then they could handle. In fact, common sense and a willingness to take things slowly may be the best protection against any unpleasent side effects of any such esoteric practices.
The follwoing exercises are meant to assist in freeing the kundalini in a controlled fashion. It takes regular practise and commitment. The amount of time given to the exercises should not exceed more than 15 minutes in teh begining. slowly.. SLOWLY working up to a maximum of 45. Oh and before that I may as well give you tyhe benefits of regular practise:
-The health of the physwical body improves
-you gain control over your feelings, experiencing richer emotions and deeper sympathy for others
-Thinking, wisondom and discrimination become both more reliable to you.
-you can let go of the non-essential more easily
- you are quicker at fulfilling your goals
-phychic ablilities highten
-you are able to maintain the principle of enlightenment while living in this world. "

next is the technique:

"Kundalini is most often awaken through Yoga meditation - which include Mantra Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Laya Yoga or Kriya Yoga. I have prepared a meditation to help you on your path should Yoga not be available to you.

To prepare for this meditation - you might want to tape record the words on this page to listen to as your move through the meditation. Please speak slowly and softly.

Allow lots of time for the meditation - as you will need to relax when you are finished.

You may want to listen to music or be in a quiet place - or be in nature.

Find a quiet place ... free of distractions.

Adjust the lighting and room temperature.

Adjust clothing . . . footwear . . . eyeglasses.

Sit down or lie down
Find a position that is comfortable for you.

Quiet your mind . . . Still your thoughts.

Relax your body

Your face . . . your jaw . . . relaxing

Your shoulders . . . your neck . . . relaxed

Your arms . . . your hands . . . feel at peace.

Your torso . . . your hips . . . letting go

Your legs . . . your feet . . . totally relaxed

Focus on your breathing.

Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose.

Retain the breath as long as is comfortable.

Exhale through the mouth slowly and completely.

Repeat for two more breaths . . . or as is comfortable.

Now focus your attention on your chakras.

Starting from the top of your head visualize your crown chakra opening.

Watch as pure white light enters your crown chakra
and slowly spirals down through your spine.

The white light opens your third eye chakra.

You may experiences vibrant colors especially in blue, and violet . . .

The white light moves down to your throat chakra releasing your blockages.
You may feel like chanting or singing.

Allow the tones to resonant from your throat.

Do this as long as is comfortable . . .

The white light now enters your heart chakra.

You experience a feeling of unconditional love and compassion.

The white light enters your solar plexus.

Gently your fears - anger - tensions are released.

See the white light enter your spleen chakra

releasing pain and guilt linked to that chakra.

The white light now enters your Root Chakra the seat of your kundalini energy.

As it does, it begins to activate the energy of the base (root) chakra.

Feel the energy suddenly emerge from your Root Chakra,
Spiraling up through the base of your spine as if it were a coiled snake.

The coiled snake represents the spiraling DNA -
opening, activating, bringing you to higher levels of consciousness.

Allow the energy to flow through your chakras.

See the energy wheels rotating.

When your are ready - return your consciousness to your physical body.

Relax and balance your energies.

You might want to drink some water."

sorry about all the spaces copy and paste didnt work so well

When your chakras are in perfect condition or somewhat there, a period of time will come when the kundalini her self will raise on her own. Unless you have a strong balanced root chakra i don't advise you try to raise her on your own. it took me about 3,4 years to raise mine. and control is a different story.

I would simply like to add that this is Not a path a person should attempt if they're looking for "power" or simple energy gains. This path is ment to place your spirit into a state of evolutionary flux, so that you can become closer to the divinity of the Universe and ultimatly more enlightened.

Its a path for spiritual and self betterment, and should only be attempted if you feel you have grown spiritually and are ready for higher steps. Its not an easy path.

ahh very well put and constituted!

I also learned that you need to understand Kundalini energy and how it benefits your body. This awareness is important since helps you carry out the meditation effectively.
You'll need to get ready to allow the Kundalini energy to complete its course in your body. Why? During Kundalini meditation, there will be an abrupt burst of a healing and spiritual energy - and you need to receive it with complete preparation

Please do NOT do the meditation suggested. While it has the right idea, never start from the top working down. You always want to start from the root chakra and work your way up. The energy should always be pushing up, never down. That is one way to create negative effects from an awakened kundalini. You may want to look into kundalini yoga in your area also. It is a little different from other hatha yogas in that it strengthens the glandular system. (Each chakra relates to specific glands in your body, usually around the location of the chakra.) I have been doing kundalini yoga off and on for ten years now, and my kundalini just awakened a month ago. It brought me immense peace and calm, but I have to continue my yoga practice consistently to maintain it.
