Altar items

Do i need the actual items for my altar? Do to money saving and convenience, my "sword" is really a metal nail file and my "chalice" is just a doll's teacup i got years ago when i was interested in american girl characters. I did go to the bristol renaissance fair but i had a budget and spent it on a fairy and massage oil.

No. You don't have to. Having items like athemes, candles, crystals, and so on are optional. Items for your altar just gives life into it I guess you can say. When I mean by life, I mean energies.

You don't need all those items! Nature provides everything you need, depending on the seasons of the year.Winter flowers, snowdrops for instance.Spring flowers and buds.Summer blooms, roses are good.Autumn nuts, acorns, perhaps an apple. And don't forget bread all year round! Bread has always been important on the altar, every since Mankind began pounding grass seeds into flour!
The chalice and dagger (Athame) are for fertility rites. They come much later in life.
