Sleep problems

Hello, I am a new mother. My one year old daughter is trying to get over the stomach flu and she is not getting enough sleep. Doctor's say the illness needs to run through naturally. I was wondering if there was any natural yet safe procedures, spells, rituals, herbs of choice for lotions, bath salts or bath wash that would be okay to use on her?

You could just get medicine to help. The doctors are also right. All illness go away by themselves over time. My advice is you can pray that your daughter gets better and/or light some candles for a peaceful surrounding. I suggest a yellow candle for protection so you can have more of a positive feeling.

Chamomile is safe. When my daughter had colic I would dunk a chamomile bag into hot water 3 times, then let it cool to a luke warm temperature and let her drink a little. But for a 1 year old, I would say steep for 2min.
Here is a link for you about chamomile tea for infants and children.

You can also make a chamomile bath for her.

The scent of lavender is soothing. My daughter is allergic to lavendar, so I couldn't use it, but Johnson and Johnson have some nice lavendar scented soaps and lotions.

Touch is important. So when rubbing lotion, use long soft strokes across her chest, stomach and back, and stay away from ticklish spots.

You can also lightly rub her ears. There are tons of nerves there and rubbing them triggers relaxation.

When my daughter was that age, I would walk my hallway back and forth with her in my arms with very little light. I would have music playing and sing softly to the music. Sometimes it took up to 1hr of walking, but it would get her to sleep. The rhythm of walking is very soothing.

When young ones are sick, they are comforted by mom, so its best if you hold her and lay her down with you, rather than placing her in her crib.

Make sure she is getting plenty of fluids. Pedialyte is great. If she doesn't like it, use whatever her favorite juice mixed 50/50 with water. Always hold off fluid for at least an hour after she's vomited. And never give just water, it'll come right up.

A mother's magick is in her ways of comfort, the bond of a mother and child, and in what she displays. She'll pick up on your worry and become stressed herself. You must show her that everything is ok. It's the greatest challenge a mother can have, to put aside all the worried feelings and fears for the sake of her child's own sake and even smile when you feel like crying.

Singing is wonderful for babies and children, and song is a great tool in magick. While your singing to her, see the sound of your voice carry as energy and enfold your young one in comfort. Relax your own body, and release your tension. Feel the bond with your daughter and send her that same feeling of relaxation. Relax for her, let yourself go into the music, and she will in turn relax and give into her body's need for sleep.

Feel free to pm me if you have any other new mommy questions. I don't mind at all. My daughter is five years old and very healthy. She has never once had a prescription drug, not even an antibiotic. She's never needed one, I am always on top of her illnesses with healing whole foods and herbal remedies. She is very rarely sick and has never been sick more than 5 days, and most times it's two. Knock on wood, she has yet to become sick since last Spring.

You really don't want to use any sort of smoke around a baby. Their lungs aren't fully developed and you have yet to discover whether she has anything like asthma which is normally not noticed until later. You don't want to find out the hard way early on.

If you want to use aromatherapy, that's what the lavendar baths and lotions are for. Chamomile is inferior to lavendar in aromatherapy.

I have a herbal formula for sleep. it is called sweet sleep.
When I make it for other people and I go to bed it is the deepest sleep I could dream of. It was given to Us by our High priestess in my old coven. first make a small bag about 3X3" get the following, bergamot oil, calendula blossoms, catnip, chamomile blossoms( can use contents of a few tea bags),henna, hops, lavender, linden blossoms, marjoram, mullien, patchouli oil, poppies and poppy seeds, tuberose, valerian, vetiver oil. remember you do not need every ingredient but a combination of 8 is what I use. as always cast your circle, mix your ingredients dry first, then add your oils. when mixed putinto the bag sew it shut place on night stand close to bed, or under pillow. I know it works on adults and kids it is non toxic. Anyone or any combination will give effects.
Blessings and peace:

If you want to try it with three ingredients, I would use calendula blossoms, lavender oil, and patchouli oil, or vetiver.

The previous advice of Chamomile and Lavender are excellent posts. As was pointed out to you by WhiteRav3n if you are relaxed your child will feel it and relax too. It would be good for you to have chamomile tea and a lavender bath. It's been over 20 years since my daughter turned one but in olden days I would add a few drops of essential oil to the vaporizer.

As for chants and spells, depending on what you are trying to alleviate such as fevers or congestion there are some hex magick chants that are effective when meditating and sending healing energy.

Also peppermint oil as well as menthol can clear the nasal and air ways. With a young child the oil must never come into contact with their skin. The peppermint oil is extremely strong and will burn. A very small amount of peppermint oil, say a drop on a tissue near her where she can breathe in the vapors will go a long ways. I believe that Vick's or a similar brand has a menthol rub for children but like I said it's been a few years so I'm not sure what is available these days. Since your daughter is so young your local pharmacist will be your best guide.

When looking for natural cures I like to talk with consulants in the supplements area in stores such as Whole Foods and here we have a Food Co-Op and natural food shops. There are a few supplements and oils that can reduce the symptons for viruses making healing easier for the individual. Whatever you do make sure you check and double check the saftey for use on a year old baby.

Blessings and Healing to you and your baby.

Few drops of Anise essential oil in aroma lamp, or on a piece of cotton can induce sleep and isa very safe method. You can place small thumbled amethyst in sachet and attach ( sew it ) down to pillow. Same can be done with white pouch containing Frankincense tears, benzoin, and Anise seeds or Hops.
Flax seeds under pillow calm children, ward off nightmares and evil and said to invoke blessin'

Hope it helps, Many blessings to You and Your daughter
