So, lately whenever I try to meditate my mind keeps racing and I can't focus enough to actually get into the 'zone'. Do you guys have any tips or tricks to help clear your mind when trying to meditate?

Sometimes you can`t focus because there are too many things on your mind.

My solution for this is, instead of trying to focus on nothing, pick something to focus on. Maybe it`s the clock across the room, or the cover of a book within view. Study this object, until there`s nothing else in your mind but that object you are concentrating on. That should help still the racing thoughts.

Stop trying to clear your mind. Direct your focus. If your focus drifts, acknowledge the thoughts which have distracted you and bring your focus back.

Look into Silva Mind Control Method (also called Silva Ultramind or Silva Life Solutions, depending on which version you get). It is very good at helping people control those pesky thoughts. There is a good article which does a very similar technique. The author actually drew from Silva Method when writing it. i know the feeling, sometimes i just have to walk away. i've started [and by start i mean in the past year lol] getting into guided mediation, it gives you something to focus on when you can't simply sit and be. just keep in mind mediation is about relaxing in the present moment and not shutting your brain off, so some days it's a quiet nature walk, other days it's a city traffic jam. go with the flow, and know on the days you're not feeling it, to find another relaxation method [walk in the park/woods, bath, yoga, calm music, guided mediation] personally on days like that where my mind won't stop chattering away i just count my breath to 20 and call it a day.
