Casting your own spells.
By:
Hello. It's red.

I wanted to explain to people on this site why it's better to cast spells on your own than having a spell caster do the work for you

When you ask a spell caster to cast a spell on you sometimes they charge you money to be able to cast the spell for you. And I've heard if people paying up to $50 for the spell caster and the spell didn't work. It's just not a good idea. I usually cas my own spells and they work just fine.

sometimes spell casters cast spells to people for free. This is a much better that having to pay money to have a spell casted for you. But it won't work. If you create and cast your spells your chances of successfully casting your spell increases. This is like somebody doing your homework for you. Your not puting your knowledge about what you learned in class. And if the teacher finds out you will get a F on that homework assignment. Same thing goes with a spell. If you put your energy into the spell and believe. You will pass.

If you have a option of getting a spell caster or casting the spells on your own. Think about it as a homework assignment. Either the spell caster does the homework for you to score an F or or do the homework on your own to get a B+ minimum.

I hope this changes things around for people here.

People who ask for money are scammers trying to steal money. Its best to cast spells of your own.

I disagree with you Blackheart. A person has a right to ask for a bit of compensation for their efforts. Materials cost money, so does a persons time. You would not go to a doctor, lawyer or mechanic and ask them to fix something for free. These people have put in time and money to learn their trade, they have skills that you do not which is why you go to see them. A spell caster is often no different. So to say that anyone who asks for money is a scammer is not accurate.

I am not talking thousands of dollars here, which is a price I have seen floated for specific spell work. I am talking a small amount to cover the cost of material and a bit for compensation of time and energy. You are, after all, asking someone to do something you can't or won't do for yourself.

You can negotiate how this will be done if you want to. If the spell caster is not willing to give you a detailed list of what they will need and what it will cost, feel free to go somewhere else.

Candles cost me about a dollar each. I can get herbs for .75 to 3.00 for an ounce, prices will vary depending on ingredient. I can pick up stones for a dollar to five dollars, varying prices here as well. Ribbon, cloth, flowers, essential oils, etc all have a price point attached to them. I also would have to spend my time and energy gathering materials, creating the spell, working divination, and a slew of other things.

So, the spell needs 2 candles, three herbs, and two stones. We will say the estimated cost is five dollars total. Now this spell will take 30 minutes to cast and will require me to be on hand while the candles burn down (estimated time 1 hour from the time they are lit). Total time taken to do the spell, including writing it, gathering materials and casting it is 3 hours. If I ask for ten or twenty dollars to do this, am I being unreasonable? At a cost of 10 dollars, minus the 5 I put into materials, I am asking for 1 dollar and 66 cents per hour for my time. At 20 dollars I am asking for five dollars for my time plus the cost of material. I do not see why this is unreasonable or why it would make me a scammer.

Nordy makes a good point. Though many may try to scam you, these are some ways to check if they are legit. Kinda like when you go to a mechanic and they try to over charge you. But, if you know a bit about cars it's a lot harder to get jipped. So when you get a spell or reading done ask questions. As a paying customer you have the right to be informed.

It is important to make the distinction that some "spell casters" are legitimate and some are frauds. It is because of how hard it can be for some to make this distinction that a lot of people err on the side of caution in thinking it might not be a good idea to send money; however, a lot of people go overboard with this in saying that all of them are fraudulent (and the opposite is equally as toxic).

What a lot of people miss is that in local communities, there were people who went to someone who would do workings for them because that was a skill the practitioner decided to utilize for other people (both for compensation and for "free" across many cultures).

Ultimately it is the responsibility of the requesting person to decide whether or not they want to take a chance on an individual practitioner. Sometimes you get what you asked for and don't realize that's not what you needed. Sometimes a legitimate person's working won't come to fruition. What's important here is the behavior of both involved and how they handle the situation. The same is true when requesting psychic readings from people.

tl:dr

Don't harass people because of subjective beliefs and mentalities.
In general just be mature about interacting with others.

Nordstar and Stabby covered the majority of what I would have said, but I just wanted to add a couple of things from a hoodoo perspective.

Rootworkers have an established history of acting as spiritual guides and remediators within African American communities, very much as members of the community who were valued and indeed paid for their work.

In one of Cat Yronwode's book, she even discusses how in the early days of her business she would try and do work for free for disadvantaged clients, and they found it somewhat rude that she refused payment and more or less insisted to pay her.

All this really just reinforces what has been said above, but one thing that I did want to address was the idea that spells cast by others for you are somehow weaker or less effective than those cast for yourself.

Of course this is a matter of personal belief, but I don't see why this would be the case. If you wish to increase your own skill and knowledge, yes, it may be beneficial to do the work yourself, but not everyone has that goal.

For those looking for reputable rootworkers I recommend:
