That was difficult to read.

You don't have to honor deities in your practice, it's entirely your choice. Witchcraft is a skill, not a religion.

Freyja and the horned god are from Norse and new age (celtic-ish) religion respectively, which are both open religions. You don't have to be a part of either to work with them, but you should be aware of the lore behind them and the context in which they exist in their respective religions.

I agree with Blue. You can use your own energy or that from entities other than gods to power your magic. Like many people here, I don't work with any gods found in myth. If you feel drawn to cernunnos and freya, you can try working with them, and I agree about reading their myths to learn about them first.

I agree with Embers. You should know about your deity and how to approach them. Also you can meditate to help find whether that deity is for you. Look for signs.

This is a great site that helped me learn more about the Greek Goddesses: http://goddess-power.com/index.htm

hello
I always find when working with a god or goddess, especially Hecate, artemis etc, they choose you. This in my opinion is the most important feature to understand if you intend on going into work with the gods. While I've not heard of those specific gods/goddesses, my area is greek. But if their is one thing I have learnt from working with artemis and occasionally other gods is they choose you. Take Hecate. I've been trying to attract her attention for 3-4 months now with elaborate rituals and other such like, 3-4 months with no answer. Then one day I met a "witch" who followed Hecate and who is my invaluable resource on crystals and other things. So you see, no matter how elaborate, you attract their attention, then they choose you. I don't mean this to sound depressing or anything, just my personal experience

Goldfire is swinging in the right ballpark. Generally you'll know whether a deity is accepting or rejecting of you. If you feel an immense amount of negative energy from a deity, it may be best to stay away either for a bit or for good.

I think it comes down to what feels right You can worship a god/goddess without using them in magic or you can worship and ask for help with a spell/magic. The other way would be Becoming a priest/priestess and using the deity wholly for magic (him/it/they grant you extra power) or as a chosen acolyte using your own power and may get help now and again (like being an outside cat your on your own if you want or you can have some help they like you) Well that's my perspective/understanding of the matter.

You don't need a deity to work with Magick

However if you do want to find out who your true patron God/Godess is I recomend meditation, also ask them to give you signs and pay careful attention to any signs/dreams you have

For example you could see owls a lot and that could mean your patron Godess is Athena

You can also work with both the Horned God and Freya
