Satanism Section
By:
Hello All! I've noticed there are a lot of Satanists on this site. More than the number of Vodouisants and Druids it seems, who have their own forum sections. I think it would be beneficial for all members here if Satanists have a designated place for posting about their path. This would be a simple move on the part of the site's administrator that could make Satanists feel welcome here and help them stay informed. There are unfortunately some risky sites on the internet like joyofsatan, which people say promotes racism sets a bad example for children. SoM can make a difference in leading them to healthy spirituality instead.

An "open forum" is best. So that all "paths" can be discussed.
Of course, a section just for Satanists as well! Just as there are "covens" for other paths.

The problem with a forum section for Satanism is that Satanism isn't as well defined as other paths. Atheistic, Theistic and duotheistic all hold different meanings, beliefs and practices that when examined they become so different from each other that they bare hardly any resemblance to one another.

Aaran, are you saying Satanism is not well defined because they don't all agree on one theology? Heathens and Wiccans don't all believe the same thing, but they have their own sections.

I'm saying what a atheistic satanist believes and what a theistic satanist believes are so far removed from one another that they are only connected by the word "Satanist."

Generally most wiccans believe the same and so a section for Wicca is okay since the majority of wiccans will be able to relate to most if not all topics in that section of the forum.

Again with Heathenism and Hellenism, Core beliefs are somewhat the same and practices usually share similarities.

What a Theistic satanist and a Atheistic satanist believe and do share next to no similarities. Meaning that a forum section with the umbrella term "Satanism" would be ineffective.

Historically, is it possible to trace Satanism as a religion or explicit philosophy, being derived from the Christian concept of Satan as opposed to a Christian interpretation of paganism as being satanic, prior to LaVey's Satanic Bible?

Not so much a religion, as an accusation of a belief. Many organisations were accused of heresy by stating that they were "devil worshipers". The Templar Knights were just about wiped out for being accused of worshiping Satan. After about the 4th century, all witches were accused of Devil Worship.
And all this was long before the charlatan LaVey made his millions from his "bible".
