Mine are often of something with springy material. I prefer willow branches with firm wheat stalks for the sweeping part. I'm not sure if there should be a specific kind of wood, but I use this with success

Best wishes

Brooms are ritual instruments used to clear the place of negative energy, they dont need any specific materials as long as it's a broom reserved for ritual use, might as whell be plastic, most just prefer natural wood because its what they originally used (but its not like they had many options back than, so as long as its a broom it really shouldn't matter)

I honestly always thought natural materials were best because synthetic things, like plastic, don't conduct well. (although that might just be me..)

Originally, especially in Europe, a broom was exactly that! Broom!
Broom is a springy bush that grows in "copses". For hundreds of years (Possibly thousands!) farmers have used Broom to make fences.
A "sweeping" broom was used only to clean the house! It is only in later years that the broom has gained some "magical" power, apart from its early use in marriage. Before Christianity took over, the young couple would make their vows (with meat and wine), and then hold hands (hand fasting) to "jump over the broomstick", to signify that they were about to "keep house" together.
Here in Yorkshire, when a couple are living together but not married, they are still referred to as "Living over the brush".
That was the originally name for Broom; brushwood!
