Dragons and Prejudice
By: / Beginner
Recently I had a message from another user asking me to teach them what I know about Dragon Magick and I asked them the same thing I ask anyone that asks me that: What do you know already? They claimed to know EVERYTHING about dragons (that was a big red flag right there) and the dragon language, so I put them to a test with some basic questions, and the answers were so laced with prejudice that I felt sick to my stomach. One in particular got me as being very insulting to dragons, to sum it up he claimed that all light dragons were good and all dark dragons were evil, which is no different than saying all Muslim people are terrorist and all Irish are drunks (both of which are untrue). The fact that such prejudice still exist is frustrating, considering that not too long ago the practice of magic was considered "evil" by most of society, though now it is more widely accepted, the fact that there are those who would place those same stereotypes on others is, well, frustrating like I said. The fact is dragons, like humans have individual personalities, and "good" and "evil" are choices that anyone can make, even dragons. I hope this helps to clear this steriotype up

People who claim to know everything often know very little. It's their problem, not yours. I know it's hard but try not to let it get to you.

I know, no one can know everything about anything, especially about creatures as secretive as dragons, they reveal only so much, even to those that have earned their trust, and what they do reveal can take time to fully understand. I try not to let it get to me, but such prejudiced comments about anyone, dragon or otherwise, really get under my collar. There is enough injustice in the world without such things. On the plus side, although I was still willing to teach them what I do know, they got pissed off with my response that showed that they weren't as all knowing as they wanted to believe and kinda pissed them off (I do like to knock know it alls down a few pegs, especially when they make it as easy as this person did), their responses afterwards indicated that their prejudice extended to more than just dragons, they said that I'm probably from Japan for one thing (that kinda made me laugh), although I have always wanted to visit Japan, to learn about the culture and see what there is to see, it's on the other side of the world from where I live in the US (well almost).

In the practice I follow, dragons lend their energies in rituals and spells of their own free will, as well as give advice. It is communing with dragons harmoniously, each contributing to the spell or ritual, both the dragons and myself. Unfortunately my current circumstances have kept me from practicing as diligently as I should, so only a few still keep in contact with me right now (dragons draw in the extra/leftover energy from spells, meditation, and rituals, it's kind of like food for them)

that's interesting, i'd like to learn from you. i don't really study one path, just the collected information and experiences i have found over the years, i still have unanswered questions.

i know what you mean Skywing, there was this one guy who harassed me for months claiming i knew nothing and that he and his fire hydra would stop at nothing to prove me wrong. i've gotten many people asking me, though i can only help so much i feel, some are band new, but others think it sounds cool and they can have a dragon companion who they can ride and fight with and all that fantasy stuff. normally when i explain it to them, they understand, a little sad i think. some times though they get horribly defensive and call me a liar. [among other things] at times like this, i wish Dragon Magick coven was still open, just because it had, like, 13 members doesn't mean ti should have been taken down [oh well, whatcha gonna do?]
