A spell is a ritual wish. Many people have cast spells without knowing it! If you have ever blown out the candles on a cake and made a wish, then you have cast a spell. Ever pulled a wishbone? That's another spell. They are very simple spells, of course, the serious ones take a bit more effort. A spell is very like a prayer. The difference being that a prayer is asking for help from a higher power (Deity), and a spell is a do-it-yourself operation. So when you ask if spells work, ask yourself a question. Do prayers get answered? All anyone can say is that sometimes they are answered, sometimes not. It is the same with spells. But remember, no spell can go against Nature.

Spells are only things that YOU BELIEVE. You shouldn't have doubt or go full to your head that your spell will work or will not work. Vampire, etc..., are mythical and unrealistic.
Vampires are just myths, but when some people back in time got bitten by a bat, they would have some charactersitics of a "twilight" vampire. A vampire (human-bat) was a species made by Bram Stoker who was the author of "Dracula".
Try reading some books on spellcraft, it'll help a lot.
