Grass

My grand-daughter (aged four) saw my dog eating grass in my garden.(Dogs chew grass to cause them to "vomit" any hairball.) She asked me if we could eat grass.I told her that we cannot eat this type of grass. Of course, that led to other questions.
It made me wonder how many young people know how much humans depend on grass for certain types of food. Humans can, and have done, live on nuts, berries, fruits of all kinds. But grass?
Wheat,Barley, Oats, Corn, Rye, are all grasses. Grass is used for all sorts of things from mats to houses. (Bamboo is a grass!)
If you are a meat eater, the animals you eat live on grass. If you eat bread, you are eating grass.
I would say that grass is the most important, almost essential, herb on the planet!
Yes, the most abundant plant on the Earth; grass! It's magic!

One more thing. I enjoy a pint of beer now and then. It is made from "malted" Barley. Grass!

I will just answer the questions in this post:
Humans, thousands of years ago, used to be able to eat grass and raw meats without getting sick. This function was done by the appendix, witch took away the diseases and bad nutrients, over time when people became more civilized we stopped eating grass and our appendix stopped working. Animals like horses and cows can eat all grass because they have fully functional appendix's, and stuff like barley is processed so it can be eaten.

I agree grass is the worlds most essential herb :)

Yeah for grass! I live on the whole grain grasses you described, and animals that eat several types of grass all over our property.
I feel great!

Yes, I've read about those that used to eat uncooked meats and so forth, with organs that functioned at proper capacity in order to digest it. Those people did not live with disease like we do today and have for hundreds of years. Too many processed, refined foods have become part of our bodies' habit, which has decreased the proper function of our organs.

I cut out all processed and refined foods from my diet nearly 2 months ago. I feel so clean inside and everything seems to work better. I still cook my meat, but when I eat processed foods, it literally hurts! A body can get used to eating right again. And believe me, over a little time, taste buds adjust as well.

Blessed be

I would like to add that before I did this, I was sick a lot. There has been sickness in my office since I started this and it has not affected me in the least!

Sorry,DarkSun, but humans have never eaten the same type of grass as is eaten by horses and other animals. Nothing to do with the appendix; it is a totally different digestive system. We can actually eat this same grass! But it would need a lot of chewing, and we would never digest it; no nutrients would be absorbed into our systems. I'm sure most people have chewed a blade of grass laying in a meadow under a hot sun.It tastes quite sweet. But has no food value.

That is the beauty of plants over all. They give us our energy. Everything we eat can be traced back to a plant another animal ate and the plant got its energy from the sun with its nuclear fusion. It is one of the many amazing things in this world. =3

Fallenstar. All plants have magical qualities. Walking barefoot on grass is very soothing to the soul. Probably why most gardens have a lawn!
And just to add to this thread. Many people do still eat raw meat. (Steak Tartare?) And many will eat very rare (blue) steak. I like my steak cooked, but I do like a little "pink".
