Psychics - Genuine?

I couldn't fit what I wanted to ask in the subject line. My question is how do you tell a genuine psychic from a fraud? There is one local psychic I have been considering going to for a reading, but I know nothing of her. She doesn't have a website, and her sign just reads "Miss Ashley Palm and Mind Readings".
If I were to stop by or call her up for an appointment, what are some things I should look out for to determine if she really has any psychic ability?
It seems like she should be able to know why I'm there before I even tell her, no? I feel like the more info I give her, the easier it will be for her to just tell me anything and charge me money, you know?
Any info is appreciated.

Okay, thanks. That was a pretty good article.

So then, the psychic should be able to already know specific things about my situation before I tell her anything?

Ugh, well I went to the local psychic, and she was a total ripoff. She just gave me the standard vague info and couldn't tell me anything specific about myself. Out of all the generic stuff she said, only some was even vaguely true.
Total waste of time and money. Oh well, at least she said a nice prayer for me.
