Languages.

I've heard from various people that it is odd that I write my spells in other languages( mainly Spanish, French, and Greek), and they've told me that it weakens the power of it. However, I believe that it gives the spell more power and makes it more personal to me. I am of Spanish descent, speak near fluent French, and my patron gods and goddesses are all Greek. What do you think about it. Does it make it weaker, stronger, or does it have no effect.

It is up to you. As long as you fully understand what you are saying, the intent is there, and it is relevant to your work, I suppose it would make it more personal. Some people would say that it has no effect though, due to the intent being the same.

Language has no influence over the power of a spell, your spell could be written in any language as long as you can comprehend it of course. That is like saying that a German witch has more powerful spells than an American witch because her spells are written in German or vice-versa. Language is simply a method of interpretation and you should write the spell in the language most comfortable to you, keeping in mind that this does not affect the potency or power of the spell.

Yes, I believe that language has no influence on Magic Power. But It does have an indirect connection. Magic energy is influenced by your thought and emotions. Your belief and your way of thinking, visualization and rest increases the power of the energy. I had suggest you use a particular language which you feel free of using. A language which you feel most connected or in touch with since it increases your personal involvement in the spell more than any other foregn languages. Spells after all are Keys that help you to direct the energy to your specific goals. If the language used are more personal then it aids you better and more clearly into your goal since you know what you are speaking and the langauage is symbollic physical representation of communication, a way to express something deep within your heart to the physical world. Hence it indirectly supports your working

It has no effect what so ever because incantations and language are simply way to help focus intention and energy.

With enough practice spells can be used on pure will power.

Why to bother learning another leanguague and eventually cast the spell wrong when you can cast it on your leanguague?

I work with a Japanese goddess and I honor her with songs and poetry, mantras, in Japanese. But my native language is English and sometimes it just hits a spot in me that no other language can touch, so most of my spiritual and magickal communication is done in English.

I feel the same as everyone else as far as say your spells in a language most comfortable for you. But I like the idea of learning songs and poems ect. in your deity's language like Komachi said, to honor them and show appreciation. I like that idea so much I'm going to learn some Gaelic since I work with the Celtic pantheon. Thanks Komachi for sharing your brilliant idea
