Mana/Energy

Hi everyone, I am really confused about the definition, ways of use, and operation of this energy that exists in all things, or as I call it, Mana. Does it exist in just matter, or in air and space? How do such things as talismans and herbs use this Mana for purposes such as love and protection, while others do not? Could someone please explain this energy to me, or direct me to an artice that does so. Thank you:) btw, I have been a Wiccan for many years, but am just beginning to practice magic.

From what I know energy is energy. And can also be referred to as chi or ki which are associated with the chakras. Mana is a name given to refer to magic(k) as the point value generally for rpg's (role-playing games); hence MP - Mana Points.
Energy exists all around us. In matter. In air. In space. This is why some people associate it as being universal energy. Not only for being throughout the universe - physical and spiritual alike - but also because energy is a multipurpose. It can be used for different subjects and practices like a universal TV remote can be used for different TV models.
Herbs have biological properties that give then the uses that they are for. Maybe not in all cases, but personally I would say generally. As for the talismans these can be used for such purposes as love and protection (as you exemplify) because they are charged with the energy through specific intent to do aid in such specific matters. Others that do not aid in any thing or any thing in specific have not been charged with the intent and energy to do so.

Ok, that helped! And after reading a ton, I have come across that certain objects, such as herbs and stones, contain a large amount of this energy. And natural magick is the art of raising that energy, enchanting its purpose, and sending it out. But now I guess my question would be, why would objects that contain energies of love or compassion, need to be charged? Like if a pentacle is supposed to contain protective energy, I'm confused with why it would need to be charged? And I also learned that every substance, contains a different type of energy. Thanks for the help!:D

Ok, that came out a little gargled, what I mean is, would an object that is shaped into a pentagram, gets it energy from its shape, or still need to be charged?

That's very true. Herbs do already have energy to do the purposes. But like I said, they do have biological properties (which energy is a part of) and energy is every where.
You make a good point in question: why must we charge what already has energy for purposes? These purposes specific or not (I may add) I shall use an amulet for example, but it will apply in general subjects and not just the amulet. If you were to buy an amulet that is made and enchanted for protecting the wearer, whomever it may be. If I buy this amulet and I wear it it will put out the energy to protect me. But it won't be as strong as it could be. Or it may not protect me as I would like it to. And because the amulet is unfamiliar to me, the energy it has is not from me, and the intent did was not from me it very well may not work to its fullest potential. To get this full potential I charge it with my own energies and intent thus making the amulet familiar with me and making to it where it will work much better for me. Take for example a spell. If I try a spell you make with the purpose to protect it will not worse as well as if I made it because my energy is not the only energy put into it and it is truly your intent that the spell works through. Your spell is not a part of me. If I make a spell to do the same thing yours does it will work better for me than yours will because it is a part of me. It's my intent only. It's my energy put into the making and casting of the spell. And we need to charge our magickal items every now and then depending on how much it's used, its purpose, and how much energy was put in it. This is because energy leaks out whether in use or not. Just like the electrons in a battery will leak out slowly, the energy of an item will as well. Whether in use or not.
And yes. Every thing has a different energy; in analogy it's like how no two people are alike. And with these different energies comes different vibrations. Energy gives off a vibration. And in my practices I have learned that energies an their vibrations can be similar, such as two flames may have similar energies and vibrations but still will not be the same.

The pentagram has powers (for lack of a better word) all on its own rights. But what matters is how you use it. The energy you put into it. The intent/will/purpose you give it. The pentagram may be used as a protection (mostly because the circle is a symbol of protection omong other aspects) but it can be used for practically whatever you want to use it for. Just like any other tool, the pentagram is not a necessity.

Oh I see, so if energy it uses isn't connected to the user as energy direct from the caster would be, then it isn't nearly as applicable or strong as it could be, because it is the caster's intent that drives energy and magic. I'm beginning to understand! Thank you very much! Now, where do the elements come into play in all of this?

And are vibrations the message being sent out by the energy? Like the energy acts as a power source of the vibrations? So if a plant with healing energy is used, it will produce healing vibrations?

And since a plastic bottle doesn't have a tremendous amount of energy, nor has been enchanted, it doesn't produce vibrations that carry any particular command?

Where the elements come into play is debatable. You may get different answers from different people. But one this is certain that each element has a colour (or colours depending on your beliefsl and multiple properties they associate with. Some examples of how elements apply are: colour or properties that they share; or if the element(s) have any thing to do with the making of the item or whatever in question. In practical magick you may find that people work closely with the elements. Whether calling upon the element to aid in a spell or to go swimming/walk in the woods/sit next to a fire/enjoy a breeze outside (for example with each element). But as I said it really depends obser your beliefscand your usage of them. (You may also find that a common belief is that the the elements of fire, earth, air, and water when combined per say form the fifth element of spirit. And also that the elements will vary from belief to belief)
