College and Inactivity

I would like to apologize to anyone/everyone who may have been hoping to see me around more often now. You will see me around, I'm not leaving again just yet, but I may not be that active on most days. Chances are I will only log in on weekends and Fridays. Monday through Friday I have college courses to attend to and they leave me pretty drained.

I have seven classes for criminal justice and law enforcement, those are pretty tiring. I'm in a math class that shouldn't be to difficult and a literature class that is pretty fun, but they leave me ready to sleep as well.

On one day of the week I have signed up for karate classes, and to my excitement and disappointment I found that I will not be practicing karate there. Instead I am learning Tai Kung Fu and Wu Wei Gung Fu, two styles that compliment each other very well and one of which was created by Bruce Lee himself. This class also leaves me very tired aside from the physical workout since they are teaching me the opposite of what I have learned elsewhere. Instead of starting with my left foot when moving I must start with my right, that's different then what I learned at the military academy. Instead of punching with my fist horizontal I must punch with it being vertical, that's much different then what I learned in previous karate classes. The whole thing is odd to me and it all feels so weird, but due to my determination to get it right I practice two hours everyday not including the hour and fifty minutes on the day that I have that class.

So there's a little update for you all on how college is treating me, it's all very fun. And that is why I may not be as active as I would otherwise like to be. I may also get an on campus job to earn some more money, in which case I will be working after classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and between classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I have a number of lessons I intend to post for the coven I am in, I have taken notes so that I do not forget them. Since this week has been so hard, however, I may end up only posting a lesson or two and sharing other lessons that I have already written. Hopefully as I fall into the routine more it will become less tiring and I will be capable of getting more done here.

Thank you, everyone, for patience, understanding and cooperation.

hi i have joined here while you left firstly i thought bruce lees martial art was jeet kune do a collection of various fighting styles he adapted and secondly by your description the kung fu style sound like wing chun a.k.a wing tsun you will be able to tell it follows the centre line theory meaning attacks all the central points between the eyes ,nose chin , sternum, solar plexus groin and defends accordingly

Thank you, Pendylady.

GreyMagi, Lee's original style was a traditional Chinese art that he customized into a different art which was called Lee Ju Fan Gung Fu, if I remember correctly. His real name, a Chinese name, was used for that art. However when one of his students branched off to become a teacher himself, Bruce requested that a different name be used since Lee Ju Fan was his name and his student's dojo would not be Lee Ju Fan's dojo. So his student chose to call it Wu Wei Gung Fu, a name that Bruce had used to describe his art which means "to move nothing and yet accomplish everything."

Bruce did not stop customizing his art and several styles came from his concepts. It was because his art changed so often that it was so hard to beat him, in most fights he proved to be unpredictable and predicting your opponents next move is a key part of any strategy.

hi i have quote for you
I have not invented a "new style," composite, modified or otherwise that is set within distinct form as apart from "this" method or "that" method. On the contrary, I hope to free my followers from clinging to styles, patterns, or molds. Remember that Jeet Kune Do is merely a name used, a mirror in which to see "ourselves". . . Jeet Kune Do is not an organized institution that one can be a member of. Either you understand or you don't, and that is that. There is no mystery about my style. My movements are simple, direct and non-classical. The extraordinary part of it lies in its simplicity. Every movement in Jeet Kune-Do is being so of itself. There is nothing artificial about it. I always believe that the easy way is the right way. Jeet Kune-Do is simply the direct expression of one's feelings with the minimum of movements and energy. The closer to the true way of Kung Fu, the less wastage of expression there is. Finally, a Jeet Kune Do man who says Jeet Kune Do is exclusively Jeet Kune Do is simply not with it. He is still hung up on his self-closing resistance, in this case anchored down to reactionary pattern, and naturally is still bound by another modified pattern and can move within its limits. He has not digested the simple fact that truth exists outside all molds; pattern and awareness is never exclusive. Again let me remind you Jeet Kune Do is just a name used, a boat to get one across, and once across it is to be discarded and not to be carried on one's back.

– Bruce Lee [3
in 1967 bruce named has system jeet kune do (the way of the intercepting fist)in preference to jun fan to prevent it become rigid his was a system made up of wing chun boxing fencing and various other combat components which he believed would continue to evolve some believe he was the father of mixed martial arts the forerunner to the u.f.c in 2004 the bruce lee foundation named the style jun fan jeet kune do which translate as jun fan's(bruce lee's chinese name )way of the intercepting fist in his honour

If you had said Jun Fan I would have known what you were talking about. That is the name my sensai used for what he practiced, but he asked the student who went out to teach in his own dojo that a different name be used and so it was. I'm only telling it as it was told to me, if any information is wrong then I was informed incorrectly as well.

Anyways, the point in this thread wasn't to be martial arts specifically. That's just my funnest class. The point was to explain to everyone, especially those who are used to be being here almost daily and posting at least one lesson every week, that if I am not around for awhile it's not because I left or am dead. It's because I'm up to my neck in homework from the college. But, I do have lessons planned and will be posting them as soon as I have the chance to write them out.

i noted from other threads and post that people on here have a high regard for you and your post lessons e.t.c no doubt you have earned it as will i as i when i get to know you but i believe that one should always be careful what they impart so to put this rest for those who are interested
1967 bruce lee ( jun fan) created a hybrid martial art from wing chun boxing and fencing called jun fan kung fu but he named it jeet kune do in 1970 joseph cowles with bruce s permission began teaching this art but so as not offend bruce who was still modifying jeet kune do founded wu wei kung fu a taoist do nothing achieve everything philosphy form tai chi and then in 2004 the bruce lee foundation named it jun fan jeet kune do i think that about covers it

Well done, Grey. Joseph was the name I was trying to remember. I knew it started with a J, but being dead on my feet by the time I got this information I kept thinking Johnathon although I also kept thinking that name was not right. lol

Mind naming the site you got this information from?
