Starting Spells
By:
I am new to magic and am looking for easy simple spells to get me started practicing magic. I do not have a lot of supplies so I most likely will not be able to use anything that requires more than common household goods. Please just share some spells that a newbie like me should be able to handle. Thanks.

There is no such thing as a starter spell. If you want to learn more about magick start researching and such. One does not begin casting, you start learning what magick is and isnt.

As a beginner you should not even be considering casting spells till you are adept at the basics, you can find the basic rundown here:

Basics-Expanded:http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=483942&offset=80
Starting Out:http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=71692&offset=0

There are no starting or easy spells, magick is not for fun and is to aid us in our daily lives, the first things you can do are those that you feel capable enough to do, with study you can move onto much more complex magicks.

Also it is recommended that you write spells yourself, if you do this then you don't need any supplies, you can simply use what you have around you or nothing at all.

Well, if you're serious about learning how to do magic and with starting from the rock-bottom then you don't start out by casting spells, you start out by learning how and why magic works.

You see, there is no such thing as an "easy" spell or a "beginner" spell. One either understands how magic works and has mastered the basics...in which case the magic will work..or you haven't done that sort of work..and no spell will work no matter how "easy" it seems.

Casting a successful spell involves much more than finding some spell on the internet or in a book, saying some words, lighting a candle, waving a wand of any of that sort of thing. In order for magic to work you need to understand how and why it works in the first place. Grounding and centering, visualization, focus and intent, energy manipulation, etc are all necessary first steps to even begin to have a chance at a spell actually working...and more importantly to prevent a spell from back-firing on you.

So, my advice for anyone who is truly serious is to start by reading a few books and practicing the exercises those books will give you. Once you have mastered the basics you won't need anyone to give you spells, you'll be able to create your own spells that will be far more effective than anything you find on the net. Here's the books I suggest:

"Before You Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman

"Spells and How They Work" by Janet and Stewart Farrar

"The Veil's Edge" by Willow Polson

"Modern Magick" by Donald Michael Kraig

Thanks for all the resources. I have done some research and practice (meditating, trying to focus energy) and stuff like that. to be honest I'm not even sure if I'm ready to start trying spells but I'm just not sure where to start a lot of spells on this site don't seem legit so I'm just not sure where to start once I am ready to start using spells

Learning basics is your start. Then practice those basics. One does not cast spells just to cast. Spells require intent (a reason) to do them. Learn, study, practice basics. Forums/ General Info section/ Basics Expanded is where you can find them. Sit still. Listen. Get into your surroundings. Feel. The energy is everywhere! Good luck.

If you've already got a decent grasp of magic and want to try out spells, you can always try writing your own. With your own spell, you can use whatever you want with it, and it is more suited to you than a spell off some random website.
