Some Christians shy away from magic because of warnings about sorcery in the Bible. However, my understanding is that 'sorcery' by that definition means using magic in purely a totally selfish, unseemly way. It is written 'love your neighbour' - if you can help your neighbour through magic, is that not a way of expressing love? :)
Then that wouldn't really be sorcery, it would be "white" magic. There are plenty of christians who do that. When a catholic priest consecrates the Eucharist, is that not a form of christian magic? Helping others is a theme in the new testament. Seeing how many christians disregard old testament rules, using magic to help others or yourself without harming others should not be a problem.
Sorcery is sort of a grey area in my opinion in regards to the Bible. Biblical miracles may have been holy spells that God used through people. White magic is not evil and shouldn't be discouraged. Not all Christians believe the same thing though
if you look into basic spellcraft you could say a christian praying is the same as candle magick just a little less reliable as it must fit there god's agenda
I believe that the bible contradicts a lot of its meaning. Even priests in the bible cast spells using frankincense. I think a lot of people confuse miracles with magic, which I personally believe is the same.
Back in biblical times would the average person know that miracles and magic could possibly be one and the same. Using 'powers' and 'miracles' to gain popularity from religious agenda, drawing in larger crowds. Which in the Bible apparently succeeded in converting several thousands upon thousands of people believing in Christianity. I have nothing against Christianity but it does spread like a wildfire. Magic is sort of the essence of life in my opinion, Christians shouldn't see magic as evil, seeing that it is somewhat tied into the whole religion. How Christians haven't figured this out yet I don't know.
