Inner Conflict

Hello, friends, I've recently been dabbling in The Craft (I can't much, my mother is catholic- we don't actually go to church or pray before meals, but I'm not sure how she would react... But that's a problem for another day). When looking for a patron god and/or goddess I felt a connection with the goddess Selene. At first I was happy, but all of a sudden my stomach knots up and I think "What about God?". This is where the problem is. I was raised with a christian (My dad's religion) God, who calls himself the one and only God, so my newfound goddess doesn't fit in. I have to choose one, but I honestly don't know how to go about doing it.

No one can truely tell you what you can believe in. If you feel that the Goddess Selene is your patron goddess, then she is. To me, and most likely for many others, the "Christian" God is distant, meaning you cannot commune with him, or work directly with him, only pray and hope for the best. But with a patron god/goddess, you can work with them, form a bond with them, and can sense their pressence. In my view, this makes them real, unlike the christian god.

It may take some time to adjust to the idea that there isn't a one true god because of your background, but if you continue your practice and commune with your patron goddess, that problem will go away. Because you will know what YOU believe in and know.

Again, the choice is ultimately yours to make. Do what you feel is right, and what makes you happy.

Unless you are Wiccan, you don't need a Goddess and a God. For some people, it's not about having both, and some deities really are both (although they have a masculine/feminine form).

So perhaps the question shouldn't be how to find a god that works for you, but rather do you need a god right now?

Cat, I would be careful about implying that the Christian God isn't real. There are Christians on this site and such words could be considered as insensitive at the least.

The Christian God is as real as any god. Your relationship with him can be as close or as far as with any other god. It's not a matter of whether you believe in gods or God, it's a matter of what you do with them.

That's why I stated it was my belief, not that it repressented everyone on this site. Nor did I say it was wrong to believe in him, I was a Christain once too, but found personally that Wicca makes more sense and feels more personal.

By all means, if he or she wants to continue to follow the Christian faith, they can. I'm not implying that they are wrong to do so.

Arisa, I was raised Christian but am learning about Wiccan, because it definitely seems like a religion I'd be able to really accept. I've already decided to become a witch but haven't told anyone.

And you don't have to tell anyone if you don't want to. Some people feel that keeping their practice a secret is the best course of action, due to some reactions they fear will happen. But that doesn't mean you have to keep it a secret ;)

I'll probably tell my mother sooner or later- if she knows then buying things like gemstones and incense won't seem strange ;)
