It's difficult without the illustrations to give clues of the meaning, and without the major arcana (That's what you usually see in the movies-- "death" card is a major arcana, "the lovers" "the wheel of fortune" "the moon" ... but something like "five of wands" "queen of cups" is a minor arcana) but yes there is a kind of cartomancy that uses ordinary playing cards.

This one book "The Solitaire Mystery" -- it's a weird but kind of cool novel, talks about how the pack of cards corresponds to the calendar, because of the four seasons and four Western magical elements.

Well in Asia, a set of normal playing cards are use as Tarot cards for fortune telling. The combination and arrangement of the cards will reveal what the answer to your questions. What I really believe is that these cards reader have a gurdian angel to assist them. I have come across a handicapped person who have no knowledge of this card reading (who is a hawker) A few days later he started charging people a fee for card reading. I found out later that an old lady who use to read cards for people have "retire" and took pity on this man (a neighbour) thus passing her gurdian to him to make a living as a trade.

it is quite simple,if you know the tarot ,to use a deck of playing cards as a divination tool, you read the numbered suits as if they were minor arcana, wands or staves are clubs, diamonds are pentacles, spades are swords and hearts are cups, you just exclude the major arcane and include a mixed interperetation of a page or princess, and knight ,as the jacks and read the other court cards as you would in the tarot, I know two women who reguklarly payed a witch 25 bucks a reading to read them with a deck of playing cards, they were pleased, and the woman also required her querants/clients to buy the deck of cards, which is kinda cool becuase their reading can stay and belong with their own personal cards and you can get a deack of cards for 1 to 3 bucks almost anywhere, It would be much easier to learn divination with playing cards by using the images of the tarot or learning the tarot first before trying to attch meaning to numbered symboless cards.
