Broken Circle
By: / Novice
so last night i was leading a funeral for my friends cat [laugh if you will] i cast the circle and everything was going fine until a couple guys came and walked right through it. i mean they knocked over the north and east candles as they walked. while my friends forgave them, i got rather annoyed and had to sit down before recasting the circle because i couldn't concentrate. i've seen this happen before when my friends have cast the circle and someone broke it. i was wondering, since we have to use our energy to cast it, does breaking the circle effect the caster, or is it just the person overreacting?

I would say a bit of both. We expand energy to make the circle and to recast we must expand more. It is an annoyance to do something and re do it regardless of if it is magickal or mundane. I also think there is a bit of personal over reaction in that we see the people who broke the circle as not having respect for what is being done.

A mundane example, you sweep and wash the floor and someone walks on it an makes a mess.

Who are these guys and why didn't someone raise their hand to them and say 'STOP; when they were 'outside' of the circle ? If it happens before who is breaking it ? If it keeps happening then these people are doing it on 'purpose' find somewhere to cast where it would be impossible to 'break' the circle.

@ paganstar, thanks.

@ spellcaster we were doing it in the woods a little ways near an abandoned train yard, and some people use it as a short cut. i was in the middle of a chant when i saw/heard them coming, when they got closer, one of my friends asked for them to move onto the trakcs [because there was a space between the two tracks that we cast the circle] they just kept walking, knocking over the candles and said we should have marked it better.

Ohh if it is the shortcut then find another space as the people coming and going thru that shortcut could alter your spells. You need to be careful as anyone who would do what they did would not hesitate to not only knock things over but stay and jeer and tease whoever is there with you doing this. Marked it better, they simply didn't care so you definitely need a better place.

Lack of respect, don't you just hate it? Definitely find better locations for your magickal workings. That's the best advice I can give. Good luck. Blessed Be...

Yes it can unfortunately. this is why magic is done in private. To know, to dare, to remain silent ( you cant remain silent if everyone knows lol or walks thru your circle)

we did it there for two reasons, first a lot of cats are in that area so we found it appropriate, and two it was really close to my place and i was tired from work. before i moved we did it in my back yard, or in this park no one goes to.

@striderm unfortunately yes circles are easily broken. they're designed to keep spirits and astral beings out, not physical creatures.

Neither of those two reasons are 'valid', Cats in the area just means that there are 'rats' nearby which is NOT healthy for any of you should you get their 'fleas' on you which contain disease. Close to your place of work ? Again not valid as the place 'has' to have some kind of essence for things to work properly NOT because its convenient. Your back yard is good and the park, well if no one goes there there MUST be a reason and to have one of you dead thru some wacko there is NOT good.
