I'm aware that this question is highly vague, but where should one begin or start in herbalism?

There are so many herbs it can be overwhelming. I have started using note cards. I have two different boxes the note cards go in. One for magical purposes and one for what they can be used to treat. But I do it in categories. So herbs for Zodiac and planets and months ect and then the other box herbs for digestive issues but the specific issues, anti inflammatory, ect. And if they are not to be ingested in any form they are written in red. Then I have a quick reference to go by and then can research the specific info I need

Toxic and Amarys are right. Learning properties of different herbs (magical and/or medical depending on your direction) is probably the best way to start learning about herbalism.

Good point was made above.

But here is the pdfs on herbs to help you out.

Don't read all of them, just read the one that you only need the most or makes sense to you.

Start one herb at a time. Pick one and find out as much information on it as possible, spend at least a couple of weeks on it and then move on to the next one. Start with ones you can easily access, like basil for example. Start a small herb garden if possible. It will take time

Also start with safer herbs such as rosmary, basil, lavender, etc.

Try to avoid working with herbs such as wolfsbane or datura because they are posiness and you're a beginner

One herb I can strongly recomend you learn though is Holy Basil also know as Tulsi,it is very good

I suggest finding five or ten basic herbs/plants that you can get access to easily and find everything there is to know about them. I did this same thing when I started and chose Basil, Rose, Willow, Cinnamon, and Ginger.
