Messing up chants

hi. im new to the wicca world of spells and such and i was wondering if it did anything if i were to mess up a chant during a spell. ive found certain spells require u to close ur eyes and focus on images so i cant read off paper. hopefully nothing happens but if so please explain thank u

Chanting is used to raise energy. The repetition of words, the beat to which you say them, and the focus you have on what you are saying is how you get the chant/spell to work. Without the energy raised you have noting to fuel your casting. Memorizing the words and keeping a steady chant is a must because breaks in the chant cause a drop in the energy you have raised.

so it wont like backfire and do something horrible? its just energy that decreases?

only decreasing. and you can keep eyes open and read if you'd like to. just don't stop visualising

I think the most important part is that you feel it. Don't just recite it, know it and believe it and feel it resonating within you. If you mess up a few words it's ok. I usually practice reciting a chant for a while before casting it, so everything goes smoothly.

i would advise practicinh the chants/spells in private so that you know them without having to look at he words. the most likely thing to happen is just loss of raised energy.
