Hello all, please help

Hi, I'm Andrew, and I really want to learn so, first off, please feel free to bombard me with anything you've found helpful for starting out. "Starting out in what?" you may be asking and the answer is, I don't really know so let my give you what I do know (also feel free to correct me) Magic is a force that resides in everything, call it chi or life-force or The Force for the starwars fans it's an energy. And that energy can be taped into in a variety of ways, be it prayers/rituals, spells(?), meditation or divination (those are all I can think of). I know that the Dr.Strange 'magic' doesn't exist but as to what's real and what's fake, that's about all I know. So if you feel like helping a noob find his path I would be extremely grateful. Go in peace, Andrew

Hi Andrew, nice to meet you, and welcome to Spells of Magic. I highly recomned that you look at all the different articles/forums about starting out on here. Finding a goal/objective is usually a good place to start. If you want to get into spell casting or anything of that domain, it is a very good idea to practice meditation and visulisation. Again, there are many good articles for that.

You will need to build up your strength, because magic is just like anything else, you need to practice it or you won't get any better.

Another thing to look out for is the fluffies. Magic is not able to transform you physically. It is there to help the flo of the universe(at least that's what I believe, you can believe whatever you want) and not go against the grain of it. So be warned that the transformation spell section is pretty much completely false.

Again, best of luck, I hope you are able to have fun on this website.

Gods be with you,

Axa. :)

Ya I've been doing that thanks, and I get that you can't change reality, or if you can it's WAY beyond any web forum magic (no offence). But thank's of the tips it's good to know that there are people in the world that care about others goals in life.

I too am just starting out in magic, but I will add what I can.
Meditation is key to the practice of magic, as is extensive research. Learn all you can, especially about associations of colors, crystals, herbs, moon phases, and numbers. There are some useful articles pinned to the featured articles page that will provide an introduction.

A useful article on herbology, from another site: http://witcheslore.com/bookofshadows/herbology/plant-and-herb-magic-2/1174/

I will reiterate the importance of meditation; it is worth your time to find a way of meditating that works for you. Spend time on introspection, and on figuring out what magic means to you.

Good luck on your path, and feel free to mail me with any questions.

If you're serious about learning how to do magic and with starting from the rock-bottom then you don't start out by casting spells, you start out by learning how and why magic works.

You see, there is no such thing as an "easy" spell or a "beginner" spell. One either understands how magic works and has mastered the basics...in which case the magic will work..or you haven't done that sort of work..and no spell will work no matter how "easy" it seems.

Casting a successful spell involves much more than finding some spell on the internet or in a book, saying some words, lighting a candle, waving a wand of any of that sort of thing. In order for magic to work you need to understand how and why it works in the first place. Grounding and centering, visualization, focus and intent, energy manipulation, etc are all necessary first steps to even begin to have a chance at a spell actually working...and more importantly to prevent a spell from back-firing on you.

So, my advice for anyone who is truly serious is to start by reading a few books and practicing the exercises those books will give you. Once you have mastered the basics you won't need anyone to give you spells, you'll be able to create your own spells that will be far more effective than anything you find on the net. Here's the books I suggest:

"Before You Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman

"Spells and How They Work" by Janet and Stewart Farrar

"The Veil's Edge" by Willow Polson

"Modern Magick" by Donald Michael Kraig

And the following links in this thread will also help you learn the basic skills necessary for effective spellwork.
