Location.

There are many members who write silly comments for their respective Locations. Some even saying "It's none of your business.". But your Location is important. I am not meaning your postal address,or even e-mail address; but the country where you live. We have members from all over the world, and in different time zones.Naming your country indicates that perhaps English is not your first language; so allowances can be made for that! Because of time zones, when it is noon here in England, it may be the middle of the night somewhere else!
Your town is not so important; but even that can be useful for something like advice about nearby Covens or Pagan groups.
You see? The country is important. Saying that your location is "up in the clouds" or "away with the fairies", is rather pointless.

You make a point, personally I was raised with 'stranger danger' being warned by my parents of children who went missing after giving out where they lived. When I made my profile I was 15 I think, and I never included my actual location for public view. I haven't updated my personal information since then so mine probably says something along those lines.

I know you don't cast, and I'm guessing you don't believe in tarot cards, but knowing basically what country can help personalize it. Again, I do feel strange knowing exact locations of people and I prefer knowing the country, maybe a state/Provence is as close as I want to know. You do make a point with language and time zones but I haven't run into a major problem, I don't use chat, and typically people state English isn't their first language before asking a question. Chalk it up to fear and fantasy why many put "flying through the sky" or something. Plus many of them think this site talks about faerie tale magick and its fine to post your role-play location.

I was not meaning exact locations. Just the country, or perhaps the town. As you say, these can be a danger in revealing exact locations. But just country, surely there is no danger there!

I can understand where you're coming from. And it makes sense.

At the same time, my location states something refering to my practice (Van and Vil being two mythological rivers named Hope and Despair). I don't personally feel comfortable with members knowing much about me, in regards to where I live. I don't like the idea of people trying to look up my information to find where I live. Stating a country is okay, but it's just not something I personally want to do on my profile.

I think many members may feel the same, and thus use the location area to write something other than location- prompting people who are interested to ask, or for them to tell those they trust around the site. There's nothing wrong with not putting your location, either.

Where is the darn "like" icon on this site, already?

I agree with all of you. It is annoying when I am trying to help someone and they are never on and I can't communicate with them anywhere else do to the inconveniences of time zones, and at least knowing the country of where a member is would make it easier to communicate with whomever I am speaking to from time to time. Also, it can give me an idea of which ones are role-players or fluffies or not. I would be more likely to believe "Asia" as opposed to "Flying in the clouds with the unicorns."
