If you've already pretty much covered all of the basics and had clear understanding, I personally don't really see what mistake you'll make. Now if you don't have the slightest idea what the basics are, they are also listed here on the forums. I'm sure if you found your way to asking this question, you're more than capable of finding that thread. Also those basics don't always apply to everyone, so just try to keep that as a note.
DIA, I would say the most common mistake is having eyes bigger than one's stomach. That means basically that a newbie will sometimes have rudimentary knowledge, on say, summoning (which is a bit too advanced for a newbie, trust me on this) and summon an entity about which they know little or nothing. Before I started casting anything, I basically researched and studied what I wanted to practice. And worked on techniques to make me more grounded, centered and focused enough to feel confident to start casting. The more I cast, the better I have become!

Thanks everybody! I have no clue about how spells work...I want to clean up my life and get rid of a lot of hurt and I have tried different things... I tried the Law Of Attraction, I've tried going to church, I've tried therapy and it seems like nothing works.For the past 3 years my life has gone from bad to worse. I have no friends, I don't speak to any family members, my friends abandoned and back stabbed me, my ex cheated on me, I lost my job and my car. I am not sure I believe any of this spell stuff but I guess I am at this point desperate to try anything
I would say the biggest mistake is not studying the Basics long enough. Thinking you have everything down but don't. Remember to study everything until you know it by heart and then study it more. Meditation is the most common thing that people do not do near long enough I think. You should honestly do your meditation for 1 year and 1 day. While your working on that keep studying everything else you need to.
