Walburga is Tonight

Today and tomorrow, Heathens (specifically most asatruars) will be celebrating Walburga.

Walburga was a goddess associated with the burial mound and our ancestors awaiting rebirth. April 30th, a group gathers and generally will stay up all night. During the night, fires are lit, prayers and invocations are made and other rituals are observed. (Some people associated Walburga with Freya, so Seidhr and similar practices may be done at this time- Seidhr, mainly, because one may "project" to Helheim and speak with the ancestors to honor them at this time). The mood on April 30th is a somber and often quiet/reserved one. It is a time to be respectful to those who passed.

May 1st, the atmosphere completely changes. Now it is a celebration of life, rebirthing, growth, fertility, etc. The fires are made bigger, there is feasting and celebrating, invoking of more Gods from the Norse pantheons, and several rounds of "toasts and oaths", as well as the tradition things you would expect as a blot.

This is what I'll be up to! But: However you choose to celebrate these next few days, have fun!
