its a place unlike any other really. Sort of a place where dreams and thoughts become utterly real. I dont think any discription of it could truly do the justice it deserves, some things need to be experianced to ultimatly be understood the best.

The astral planes could be compared to a sort of different dimension, and is similar to purgatory. The thing is that the human language doesn't have the words to correctly encompass the astral plane. It is something that you can only experience.

To learn more try researching the astral plane and other planes of existence.

Ah,now that is the maddening part of a great many magical practices...

Intuition, typically, is the best answer I can offer. Imagination and the real thing simply FEEL different. Working with others within the craft can also help "verify" your results.

Developing some arts can certainly leave you feeling insane or delusional.

A book by one of my favorite authors, Donald Tyson, may be able to answer some of your questions about astral projection. The book is called soul flight and it throws all of the 19th century views of astral projection out the window. Its kind of difficult to wrap your head around it at first but if you have an open mind and an eager attitude it may make some aspects of astral travel a lot easier for you.
