They help attract or give off or ward off certain energies. Which can be important in some spells and rituals. Pentagram for example, symbol of protection and the unity of you with the elements/nature. This symbol is sometimes recommended in protecting oneself, wards off negativity and those who wish harm upon you.

There are many symbols that are used in the craft, many of these have correspondences or are made with intent to serve a purpose during a spell/ritual/magickal workings.

These can include:
- Runes
- Sigils
- Alchemic Symbols
- Planetary Symbols
- etc.

Whether you use them or not often depends on your choice of path.
