Magic 101

I want to do stuffs with magic. I am starting my affinity with air, water and earth. I meditate and i started this about a week ago. Over all I have been a witch for 2 weeks. Anything else to make the process of spiritual building faster and to just let me cast spells with ease?

A lot actually. Spell casting is farther down the path. Connecting with the elements is wise. Different cultures view different elements, but the common ones are Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit.

Learn about energy, how to charge, ground, centre, circle, cast, shield, and make psi balls before trying to cast. I just read this forum and found it helpful:

If you can, try picking up some books for beginners in the craft. Blessed Be. =3

Well, if you're serious about learning how to do magic and with starting from the rock-bottom then you don't start out by casting spells, you start out by learning how and why magic works.

You see, there is no such thing as an "easy" spell or a "beginner" spell. One either understands how magic works and has mastered the basics...in which case the magic will work..or you haven't done that sort of work..and no spell will work no matter how "easy" it seems.

Casting a successful spell involves much more than finding some spell on the internet or in a book, saying some words, lighting a candle, waving a wand of any of that sort of thing. In order for magic to work you need to understand how and why it works in the first place. Grounding and centering, visualization, focus and intent, energy manipulation, etc are all necessary first steps to even begin to have a chance at a spell actually working...and more importantly to prevent a spell from back-firing on you.

So, my advice for anyone who is truly serious is to start by reading a few books and practicing the exercises those books will give you. Once you have mastered the basics you won't need anyone to give you spells, you'll be able to create your own spells that will be far more effective than anything you find on the net. Here's the books I suggest:

"Before You Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman

"Spells and How They Work" by Janet and Stewart Farrar

"The Veil's Edge" by Willow Polson

"Modern Magick" by Donald Michael Kraig

The first thing that all beginners must know is that there is not one single doctrine about how magic works, as Lark would have you believe. Different sources give different explanations. The following webpage gives an overview of the contrasting doctrines of how magic works:

I've started studying magick 2-3 months ago and I'm still learning basics.
I've been mostly learning and collecting information thus far, I haven't cast my circle yet, and haven't tried magick.
(Well, I have cast spells in the past, but I didn't know that I was casting and I have also healed, but I just considered that something that I can do).
Point is, if you aren't prepared to do magick, you shouldn't, as you have no idea what you're doing. Learn first if you are serious about it, and I'm sure people on here will take you more seriously as well.

Lydia, Lark is talking only about Wicca! As for learning, it never stops! I have been a witch, and studying the subject, for 75 years; and I learn something new just about every day!
All I have learnt about magic is that it is changing one or more things into something else. And there seems to be many ways of doing it! And it is almost impossible to describe it! I can demonstrate it; but writing about it? That, is far from easy!

First off don't start with spells, you won't know how to cast them, nor will you do it correctly.

Learn the basic's many say. So I will tell you to do that also. The basics are not a one day and night study. Please, it's more like a year. There is a studying pattern on the pagan path that issues the year and a day study. This is a time when Cerridwen was said to make her famous stew or soup which takes a year and a day. I suggest you learn the year and a day study, it tells you everthing from all the pantheons, path, spells, rituals, to magic, dreams, and tarot.
