Heathen Survey
By: / Knowledgeable

For those Heathens/Norse pagans who frequent SoM, I'd like you to take a moment and fill out this survey. I think it'd be neat to see who practices what here, and help people with similar interests find each other here in the forums. Here are some basic questions:

What sect(s) of Heathenry do you most closely relate to, if any?
(Ex: Asatru, Odinism, Vanatru, Rokkatru, Lokeanism)

How long have you considered yourself a Norse pagan/Heathen?

Do you incorporate traditional magickal practices within your religious views?
If so, which practices specifically do you include?
(Ex: Runes, Galdr, Seidhr, Northern Tradition Shamanism)

Which deities/wights do you honor/include in your magickal practice?

Any additional comments about yourself related to this?

What sect(s) of Heathenry do you most closely relate to, if any?
(Ex: Asatru, Odinism, Vanatru, Rokkatru, Lokeanism)

I like to consider myself simply a Heathen in general, just to avoid labels. I don't like the thought of seperating different sects of Heathenry because it causes some political conflict between the different groups. However, I tend to most closely relate to Lokeanism and Rokkatru.

How long have you considered yourself a Norse pagan/Heathen?

Roughly 10 years. Though I'd say I've been more dedicated for about the last 7 years.

Do you incorporate traditional magickal practices within your religious views?
If so, which practices specifically do you include?
(Ex: Runes, Galdr, Seidhr, Northern Tradition Shamanism)

Most of what I do, magickally, tends to revolve around Northern Tradition Shamanism, pathwalking, working with animal fylgja, etc. I do a lot of Seidhr. Associated with that- I work with stangs, nidstangs, volva stavs, altered state of consciousness, vardlokkur, etc. I do a lot of deity/spirit work, such as horsing, invocation/evocation, offerings, that sort of thing. I'm slowly becoming more familiar with Galdr and Galdrastifir. Ideally, I'd like to work more with the runes.

Which deities/wights do you honor/include in your magickal practice?

I work with a variety of wights. I include the landvaettir (land wights) and husvaettir (house wights) in my workings. I honor the Disir and ancestor spirits as well. The deities that I work with mainly reside within the Rokkr: Loki, Fenrir, Hel, Nidhogg, Mimir and Angrboda. I work with some jotunfolk, such as Hyrokkin, Thyrm, and Vafthrudnir. I'm hoping to include some of the Aesir in my work, such as Odin, Freyja, and Vidar. I'd like to include the Alfar and Dvergar as well.

Any additional comments about yourself related to this?

I serve as a gythia of an independent kindred called The Bone Kindred. We tend to focus on acceptance of all paths related to Heathenry and Norse Paganism. We are extremely open to Rokkatru, just as much as Asatru. I'm very dedicated to expanding my magickal practice along with my dedication to the wights I honor. I'm always excited to meet anyone with a similar path, and sharing information and perspective on these practices. I am not supportive of dualism within this path, and I stay out of the political drama that sometimes comes with some Heathenry.

What sect(s) of Heathenry do you most closely relate to, if any?
(Ex: Asatru, Odinism, Vanatru, Rokkatru, Lokeanism)

I don't know if I have a specific section of Heathenry, though I tend to relate to the Rokkr, Alfar, Vanir, and few of the Aesir.

How long have you considered yourself a Norse pagan/Heathen?

Not very long, as I am new to it. It was a gradual process as I've spent over half a year in a coven mainly with Heathens. As I went, I learned more about the Sagas, Eddas, and experiences with the wights. I was bound to learn something about Heathenry,

Do you incorporate traditional magickal practices within your religious views?
If so, which practices specifically do you include?

As I am new, I have not been exposed to all of the practices. What I have been exposed to experiencing or learning about are; Berserkergang, Seidhr, runes, ordeals, and UPG's with certain wights. As I learn more, I will incorporate more.

Which deities/wights do you honor/include in your magickal practice?

I don't honor anyone in particular, yet . I have had experiences with Loki, Ran, Hela, and Surtr. I've been advised into looking into working with Sigyn and Freyja before and I do want to research them before I make a decision to honor them. I've been drawn before to Angrboda, Nidhoggr, Vidar, and the Svartalfar. My personal practice involves local spirits, so I think I can safely say I work with Landvaettir. I would like to learn more about the Norns, Disir, Husvaettir, Sjovaettir, Fylgias, and more.

Any additional comments about yourself related to this?

I like to understand the individual components before I mix any of them, as I integrate them slowly into my personal practice. Heathenry and other practices just sit right with me, and besides Janicot, who first helped me strive to work with deities, all of my experiences with deities on a personal level are Norse. I tend to work with spirits more than deities.

I don't dislike any of the other Norse pantheons Asatru, Odinism, Lokeans ect How would everything work if you only had one group of gods, to me they are all part of a whole. good day to all :)

I closely relate more to the Rokkatru sect of Heathenry than any other. It's really the only sect I've felt comfortable in working with. I try to stray from labels as far as possible, but that is what my answer would be.

How long have you considered yourself a Norse pagan/Heathen?

Not too long at all. I would say about 10 months I've been a Norse Pagan. Not long at all but I feel like I've learned a lot in the short time I've been learning.

Do you incorporate traditional magickal practices within your religious views?
If so, which practices specifically do you include?

I do not, however I am going to start learning about Seidhr, downloaded two books on it, so those should be very interesting to read and learn about. I have very little knowledge on runes, mainly ones relating to my deity.

Which deities/wights do you honor/include in your magickal practice?

I honor mainly Hela, we had an instantaneous connection and I felt I wanted to start working with her, which mainly led me to being a Norse Pagan in the first place. I have been wanting to include and honor Fenrir as well.

What sect(s) of Heathenry do you most closely relate to, if any?
(Ex: Asatru, Odinism, Vanatru, Rokkatru, Lokeanism)

I am simply a heathen, though if I had to choose a title I would have to call myself an Asatruar simply because I follow their ritual/holy day formats and I work mainly with the Aesir.

How long have you considered yourself a Norse pagan/Heathen?

I have considered myself to be a devoted Norse pagan for little over 3 years. I am still a beginner :)

Do you incorporate traditional magickal practices within your religious views?
If so, which practices specifically do you include?
(Ex: Runes, Galdr, Seidhr, Northern Tradition Shamanism)

I practice some NTS but I don't have a lot of experience or resources on it. My main practice focuses around the runes. I tend to use runes for divination and I like to use bindrunes in a lot of my work. I practice galdr in most forms. I practice the verbal galdr in which I invoke the nature of runes by singing them. I also practice Galdrastafir andStadhagaldr which would be the sigil and yoga type of galdr. I am looking into Val-Galdr at the moment. I also practice Seidr, but not as often as I practice Galdr. I find it difficult to reach the mindset needed for Seidr.

Which deities/wights do you honor/include in your magickal practice?

I always honor Thor, and I include his protection and might in many religious and shamanic rituals. I also work with Odin and the Norns in my rune workings. I honor Loki and Surt when I have anything to do with fire. I honor Freyr for a kind harvest of my plants, and to keep me frisky. I work with Hela when a loved one is sick and when I simply wish to honor her or my ancestors in Helheim. Freyja and Odin are my go-to guides when performing oracular Seidr. I work a lot with Bragi when I am seeking inspiration.

Any additional comments about yourself related to this?

I have been drawn to the runes for about 8 years. This is a fundemental part of my conversion to Norse paganism. I am also an avid homebrewer and brew my own mead for offereings. I have been associated with an international heathen group for the last year called The Troth. I had heard bad things about them, but upon joining I found some good hearted people and learnt loads of stuff.

I am very strongly related to Lokeanism and the Rokkatru.

How long have you considered yourself a Norse pagan/Heathen?

I have only been studying/practicing Norse Paganism for a year so to call myself a Heathen is still something very hard for me to do just because I am still so new to it or at least I feel this way .

Do you incorporate traditional magickal practices within your religious views?
If so, which practices specifically do you include?
(Ex: Runes, Galdr, Seidhr, Northern Tradition Shamanism)

Mainly what I do is a lot of pathwalking, altered states of consciousness, and deity work. I am still working my way into NTS and runes, slowly bringing that into my practice. I am really interested in Galdr but am still in the research part of that.

Which deities/wights do you honor/include in your magickal practice?

I mainly work with the Loki and sometimes Hela and Fenrir if needed. I am still wanting to connect to Nidhogg and Angrboda when the time is right. I have done some work with Sigyn but not to much, hoping to do more. As for wights I mainly work with the husvaettir, however I am slowly bring the landvaettir and ancestor into my practice.

Aesir, Vanir, Rokkr, and other Jotnar. Though, I tend to call on Loki's help a bit more, honoring him before any ritual. So, it could be safe to say, I'm a Lokean.

2.5 years devotional but 3 as a Lokean devotional.
3.Runes and soon Galdr.. I hope, more devotional time to Loki and his brood.. I've got a couple good devotional books coming my way.
4. Loki , Hel, Fenrir, I pay respects to Odin every time I pour for Loki half the glass is Odins, I worked with Frejya for a while, as I pay respects to the AEsir, the Norns when i read runes , and the whole lot I'll work with , I offer to them all,as i remember, being sure to get them all even Skoll and Haidi...
5. Additional comments, This faith means soo much to me.. Just as Christ or Yahweh or any other beleifs or religions, that's what Norse Pagan is to me, it gave me hope and faith and even better something to believe in and stand by...
