from what I understand
Black witchcraft is using magic to harm
white witchcraft is using magic to help
gray is a little bit of both

I don't care for any of those terms.

Grey magic is basically stuff that could be used for both good and bad. Some people would classify love spells as grey since you could use them to try and influence someone into leaving their partner for you. It's basically any magic that isn't specifically "white" or "black."

White magic is magic that does good, ex. protection, weather or cleansing.
Black magic is magic that does bad, or goes against someone's free will. This could be a love spell, a curse, in some cases summoning.
Grey magic can be most things in between. The only example I can think of at the moment is a money spell, because maybe you need the money but someone else loses theirs for you to get it.
The only real thing about this is that doing black or grey magic can tarnish a persons good energies, which can affect the success of your magic. They may have to do a spiritual cleansing in order to correct it, unless they want to continue doing mostly black/grey magic.

I think of it as a healthy balance between "black" and "white" magic. That is what I gather from research. Everyones perception of it can somewhat differ though. Do more research and come up with your own understanding or perception. The internet is your library.

Grey magic, along with white magic and black is just a way to describe magic.
I don't believe magic can be categorised so easily into either black magic or white magic, its a useful term to describe the intentions of the outcomes.
Everyone has slightly different understanding and beliefs of what magic is what but most people would agree that black magic is usually using magic with harmful intent, and white magic is with good intent. And so therefore neutral is grey magic.
However I believe all magic is grey magic, until intent and purpose is added to it.

I do not believe magic has a color or a categorization, magic is simply that magic . anything you choose to do with magic could possibly be categorized but that would be based on your intent. But once again this is hard to decipher also ie..( person 1) does a said spell with the intent to help a friend . ( person 2) does the same spell with the intent to further the goals of someone else. (Person 3) does the exact same spell with the intent to help themselves get what they want and get revenge.

So three people three intents same spell same effect is this white, black, and grey. Or is this just magic and a difference of intent.

When you think about it, black white and grey aren't really colours, they're on a different spectrum completely. They're on the grey scale, where black is one extreme end and white is the opposite extreme end, so its not set categories its as the name suggests a scale,
and so grey magic is all the neutral, or vague intent that fits in between.

For me, and also hence my name, this is something I can't escape because it's also how I literally perceive the world beyond spitual and magickal. "It is what it is"-- yes, nothing is inherently one way or the other unless you introduce a context or meaning or perception of what they are to you or to another, and let alone intention! But for me, Grey crafts are more about the unknowns and ambiguity that also transcend into identity and other physical and socially constructed ideals. Falling somewhere in the middle, and caught in between most things, or being very fluid and not particularily loyal to any one concept or thing or anyone. You could also apply this to workings and crafts, too, I suppose, in many ways. This has a lot of implications, but think long and hard on them and search for many sources and form your own logical conclusions based on what you feel to be the best fit and most relevant to you and your life.

It can also mean more or less being neutral most of the time, since gray/grey is a neutral color in its literal self, and is a mixture of dark and light. To what ever any of these terms means to you, that is something for you to really decide. Everyone's got different dictionaries and different energies and different associations to so many things as it is, so really "Grey Witchcraft" can mean many things to one or another, be it the type of energies you imbue your craft with intention regarding what ever goal it is you want to fulfill or just the general attitude and way you go about things to even a part of your own identity, or maybe even other things.

I get where your going with that , but it does not change the fact that you cannot imply a classification to the magic in those terms . It's as if saying those who study demon magic are black those who study earth magic are grey and who study angelic magic are white. No matter how you look at it it is all magic there is no difference except in source type. And your use is all the same it can all harm or heal. Everything in magic is based off of intent. If intent is not involved there is no focus on the goal so there is no reaction at all. To say words without an intent is just that saying words , so therefore the spells are only as good as the intent of the caster.
