Is Magick a Living Thing?

Hi, everyone. I recognize that the title of this post might sound strange, but it's something I've been thinking about for a while, and wanted to know what others thought.
I was reading on this site, and on other places around the web about how when magic practitioners, or regular people have a strong desire and they pray for it, or cast a spell to make it come to be, it comes in the most unexpected, and sometimes terrible, ways. Myself, I cast a spell to bring new love into my life. Of course, I expected that it would be a person, but what I ended up with was a hobby that is something I'm going to continue for the rest of my life.
So I guess what I'm asking is: does magic have a de facto will of its own? Or could it be considered a deity in and of itself?

Well this one is a bit of a weird question but I`ll tell what I know and hope it will help:

No magic has no will of its own at least not in conventional meaning of the word.
Magic is not conscious entity it is in fact just a near infinite amount of energy that is resonating with auras(mental, emotional, health and spiritual state that is reflected in ones energy, not to mention results of interaction between them) of every person, object or entity in universe.
That is actually reason why in many cases magic dosn`t work in a way that was expected or planed or hell it work in a rather roundabout way.

And for your question if magic could be considered a deity of sorts, well answer is a bit contradictory because as previously mentioned it has no consciousness of its own, so on that side answer is NO its not a deity, BUT on the other hand if you are looking at different flows of energy that are resonating in it and responses that they are creating as a form of collective/hive mind then the answer is YES.

Technically I guess you could say Magick is a living thing, only because it comes from you. It is your own energy. But for love spells to work, sometimes both people have to have mutual feelings or it won't work, which is probably why you found a hobby instead, which is not a bad thing. Magick has to do with the person's intent. If you worship a certain deity, then they see fit how to make your wish come true or how to bring about the result of your spell.

I wouldn't say it's a deity or an actual living thing.

Blessings

Maybe look up Animism. I think that's a sort of spirituality that considered everything as part of some consciousness or life force.

There's also pantheism, which could fit in easily I think with that magical view.

When you cast a spell you release a desire for it to come back to you fulfilled. You do a ritual relating to what you want in order to cast a spell. But how often do you know what you really want? You asked for "love" and you may of even stated in the spell that you wanted a "lover" but what you projected into the spell was what you got out, simply the need for love. It could be considered a conscious entity but kinda like how you would consider something like a computer a conscious entity. It has no bias, judgment, or desire. It simply does what it does.

I think it depends on how you view this, magick is energy, but then there are energy thought forms. So it is a yes and no, because magick is energy and can be manipulated to your will, but it doesn't always follow fundamental laws because it has capricious behavior.

No magick is not alive. It is by no means a deity. But there are deities who are associated strongly with magick and the mysterious. examples from my own pantheon would be Odin and Freya.

Deities and gods are thought forms that contain a mass of energy_ even if you think it's not living thought forms exist even without mass to make them living. So it is a yin yang in energy because you can't completely control it. and it does not always act as waves.

I really like this thread, so I'm bringing it back up top.

I personally don't see magick as a living thing. I think that magick can be produced by living things, but isn't alive persay. Kind of like oxygen, which is produced by plants but has no conciousness or life force.

Actually there can be a whole debate between this factor, I personally believe that magick is living, this is because if it wasn't energy wouldn't work, we wouldn't be able to breathe, it's as living as we are...honestly energy flows like the waters, and moves through the trees, there was one time when they thought the forest wasn't living.
