My first deck
By:
I just purchased my first deck. I am hoping that this will help focus my energy. I have separated myself from my gift for a long time. Lets just say I finally woke up and ended a 12year abusive marriage. But now its like I'm on overload and everyone energy is coming at me. Even when I meditate I feel others energy. But back to my new deck. I have a basic Rider-Waite deck. What steps should I take to make this deck mine? Do I focus on the deck as a whole or do I need to give attention to each card? What things have you done with your deck to create a more solid connection? Any help is greatly appreciated.

What I have done to let the deck know who I am and that I am the reader is by doing readings. If it is truly your first time than do a bunch of random readings on yourself. It will give you an idea on how the cards work, how to read the cards, getting used to the feel of them, and let the cards know that this person will be user. If, however, you have dealt with tarot before than you can move straight to reading friends and family. Strangers will be discouraged at this time due to the unknown factor.

Using your deck for the first time can be a wonder and tricky because you are reading the energy off of the cards while understanding what each card means. For example, you get the fool and when you see the person you can tell they are scared and worried. With that information you can suggest to them that their journey is just started and that they should be more careful of where they step. It is harder to give an example but you will know what I am talking about when you do a reading. If not, than practice.

So I have started using my deck. Odd occurrence though. What does it mean if I have done 10 or so readings asking simple questions just to become more familiar with my deck. Every reading I did featured the 9 of cups. It was reversed only twice. Still to draw the same card, what does that mean? Any ideas? And yes I did shuffle, a lot.

It may mean that you need to focus on what the 9 of cups symbolizes for you before working on anything else. There is something you may not be asking the cards, that they feel is necessary in your life compared to the answers you are consciously seeking.

It could also mean that might be your card. I remember when I did a bunch of readings on myself I got one card almost every spread, not matter how much I shuffle. From my experience, I believe if you keep getting the same card almost every time, than that card represent you. So yes, take a closer look on that card.

Almost forgot, be sure when you are finished with a reading that you shuffle the deck with a clear mind. This way it clears out the old reading it has done and will be focusing just on the new reading. After sometime of doing this you do not need to have a clear mind to do this trick, but it is your choice.

9 of cups? Are there any good sites or reference material out there on this card. I have read the book that came with my deck, and done other research. This card is appearing in every self reading. I have also done so readings for friends ( they know I am new at it), no 9 of cups. This card must have a significant meaning but what I don't know. Does anyone have personal understanding of this card and why it may be so attached to me.
