Who Bloody Mary really is remains a mystery. While there are many versions of this story, most accounts point to a woman named Mary Worth, who was horribly disfigured in a car crash. Some people still tell of a witch who was burned at the stake and has returned for revenge, or it may be the devil himself who comes for your soul.
The legend claims that the evil woman can be summoned by chanting "Bloody Mary" into a mirror anywhere from three to one-hundred times in a darkened room lit only by a candle. (Thirteen seems to be the most popular number of chants, appropriately so.) The bathroom is the most popular setting to test out the legend, but other dark rooms seem applicable.
I would think since it is chanted into a mirror the true purpose of this chant would be to invoke something inside of you rather than an actual entity... In this fashion one would probably convince themselves mentally it was Bloody Mary doing things when it was actually them themselves. In a sum up, I would think instead of summoning, or calling, it more of twists the mind of the one chanting it. Just a guess ^_^
Well... Im not sure where the chanting in the mirorr thing came from... but I learned in history class that King Henry VIII had a daughter named Mary. When he died, Mary became the ruler. She was cruel and strit, and kill many as punishment for thing they didnt do... well at least I think thats how it goes... I just doing this from memory...
Well i know the thing, people chant it and scratch themselves in there sleep, hence a legend was born. The best one to say is "White Mary i stole your Black Baby" And the Mary Worth legend is a good one, i was tired when i asked this, i usually just go find info somewhere else.
One of my friends started having nighmares. She told me that in them, there was this evil girl who threatened to kill her. The girl in her nightmare looked all bloody, as she told me. My friend had the nightmares more than once, and I asked her to ask what the girl in her nightmare's name was. The next day, my friend replied "Mary".
I don't know if she still has them anymore, but all I can say is "creepy".
