To evoke is to call forward from within oneself. Like, seeing the color orange can evoke memories of autumn. In ritual magick evocation is calling forth the attributes of a deity within oneself.

Invocation is inviting in. Like, you invoke Thor to invite him into your ritual to lend his presence/magick.

Evoke = internal, Invoke = external

Thank you very much. I always thought that invocation was calling a deity to come inside your body.

Excuse me but you are stating the exact opposite.

Evocation is to call upon the diety through external means or by focal point

Invocation is to call upon spirits/diety through means of "channeling" or using one's self as the object of manifestation

In simple words,

Invocation= In+ Voco.= Call in. The entity you call upon comes inside your body.

Evocation= Evoco=evoke, The entity you call upon is outside of you.
