As has been said, amethyst is amethyst, however if you are also using it for its colour correspondence then I suppose the paler purple could be used to represent: knowledge, intuiting, psychic development, etc.

In itself amethyst is a calming crystal, often used to soothe stressed minds and help with sleep, it can be used to protect from psychic attack and assist in healing: mentally, physically and spiritually.

In addition to all of the above-mentioned uses, amethyst, because of its ability to facilitate peace within one's self and its enhancement of spirituality, also makes a wonderful aid for both grounding work and meditation. Amethyst is also considered by some to be a stone that not only promotes safety and strength, but which also introduces and helps to maintain stability and peace in their personal environments.

I find that amethyst no matter the color gives me communication skills so perhaps if milky helps you the words you need in vague terms .. maybe you need it to tell someone what you think in a watered down version... always look for the meaning in your life :)

I ,from personal experience, can honestly say that that amethyst of any shade is really helpful especially dealing with psychic and spirit contact. Also very good for divination if used as a pendulum. The key is to trust the amethyst to help you. You have to kind of connect with the energy of it. Get to know it. Bond with it. Build trust and then you will co!e to find out that it may have a personality.If you have a pendulum this is much easier.

It's probably a little late, but I thought I might have a little more info to add.

All Quartz stones operate in very similar ways, as all of them are made from Silicone Dioxide as the primary mineral. The type of quartz you have is basically defined by the other minerals that get mixed in (And these additional minerals are what give the different kinds of Quartz their color).

Things common to all natural Quartz crystals;

-with a hexagonal (six facings) crystalline structure with pointed terminations, crystals are naturally good at directing energy.
-individual crystals tend to need occasional cleansing as quartz is by nature programmable and so it picks up bits of energy from whatever it is exposed to. This makes quartz very useful in spell work as storehouses for worked magic and/or energy programmed with intent.
-Quartz clusters are great generators of spiritual energy, especially when placed in sunlight. They also rarely need cleansing as once you program a cluster, it takes much more to interfere with it. Clusters and geodes are especially good at cleansing and empowering other crystals placed on/in them.
-Quartz is Piezoelectric. Mechanical pressure (Like squeezing) the crystal generates an electrical/energetic charge. This is useful in projects like energy generators built with acrylic resins and mixed with other stones. Sometimes also with copper pipe or wire antennas to help radiate the energy. The resin compresses as it dries, placing pressure on the crystal.

As for specific variations of Quarts, they are usually named based on their dominant color and qualities like inclusions of other minerals, and the qualities of those additional minerals act like a natural 'programming' to the crystal.

Amethyst is any quartz crystal with a purple tinting, which comes from irradiation and/or the presence of iron. It makes the quartz function mainly towards relaxation, healing, and grounding and so is very compatible with use in meditation for personal energy working and healing. Like most quartz this translates to a pretty wide spectrum of uses, but any magic or energy work you do through an amethyst will be 'colored' with a healing and/or peaceful tendency.

There are all sorts of Quartz variations out there, as Silicone is the second most abundant mineral on the planet. And any mineral with silicone dioxide as its base is a form of quartz. Some others include; Citrine, Rutilated quartz, smoky quartz, ametrine, pink quartz, and many others.

Most crystal books actually have entire sections devoted to Quartz and it can be really interesting. My personal favorite is 'the crystal bible' by Judy hall, which has a couple versions. A large full sized tome, and a more portable book. It is the most in depth source I have ever found, including the qualities of the crystals, what they are made of, their hardness, where in the world they are found, and their spiritual and energetic qualities in a huge alphabetical index.
