Hi, people have told me that magic is in everything and everyone has the ability to do magick but I feel like I have none at all, how would I start to learn magick?

You need raw basics, that is to say a lot of meditation and work on drawing and controlling your energy both internally and externally, also start on visualization as soon as you can it`s very useful.

These posts are really about Wicca and/or spell casting. But a spell isn't magic! Magic is changing one or more things into something different. There is "natural" magic, such as a caterpillar changing into a butterfly. Or "applied" magic done by humans.Magic can be very simple, or very complex. But it has nothing to do with spells. Nor is it anything supernatural.
Meditation and visualizing yes. The other "basics" are of Wicca, not magic.

i'm guessing you mean spell casting magick, study magick and what it is for starters. magick [for spellcasting] is energy. there are three types of energy [to quote Scott Cunningham] Personal, Earth, and Divine. personal is inside us and its the basic energy we use to move and do our daily routine. earth energy is found in natural things [herbs, crystals, trees] and are called on in spell casting to help us with our spells [example, to cleanse you would use sage because it naturally has cleansing energy] the third kind is divine energy which is all around us, inside everyone and everything, and it is used in spell casting. to cast a spell you need to tap into this divine energy, focus it into the items used in the spell, then release it through the casting.

to connect with the energy theres a bunch of methods, one way is to try making psi balls. visualize a white light entering your body, then feel it travel down your arms and pool between your hands in a ball shape. you should feel the warmth of this energy as it enters and moves through your body as well as the ball lightly pushing against your hands. don't get discouraged if this takes a few times before you feel the energy [a trick i use is rub your hands together before making the ball, you'll be able to feel the ball easier.] when you are done, clasp your hands together then tap them on the ground/floor, and feel the energy leaving your body.

Cunningham wrote about Wicca. And he even gave that up in later years. He had his own ideas about Wicca. One should always remember that most books are written for profit; they are not always of the truth! They are the author's ideas of the "truth".

Most occult books actually don't grant the author a lot of profits, most of it goes to the publisher and really and truly the occult field isn't all that popular. Sadly the new-age field and bad Wicca (i.e. non-academic, Ravenwolf Wicca) are more popular because they require less brain power. Crowley for example was always out of pocket whenever he published, he never really gained any wealth from his works. Nor did Regardie, DuQuette, Hyatt; they all had day jobs!

As for magic in the way in which you mean it the book "Modern Magick" by Donald Michael Kraig is a good place to start, as is "Spells and How they work" by the Farrars. Kraig's reading list is the best ever compiled and will keep you occupied for about a decade.

You need to start by learning what magic is, Brysing's definition of Change is something I can agree with. I would personally, being spiritually inclined, rephrase it as "Causing change in conformity with Will on the physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual planes of existence within the realms of possibility."

Magic in terms of spellcraft i.e. effecting physical change is largely based upon influencing probability of events which are already somewhat likely or possible. In terms of magic proper, i.e. mental, emotional, or spiritual change this is about effecting inner change within the self utilising various methods.

The thing which I would recommend is meditation, I don't care what anyone says, meditation is essential. If you have time for TV and Facebook, you have time for meditation. Some people are awful at it at first, I most certainly was, I'm an erratic Gemini, I couldn't focus on anything more than 2 minutes at one point.

Start with 10 minutes and build it up 5 minutes at a time gradually. Merely sit in a position you can hold with minimal movement and draw your attention to the breath, mentally repeat

"The breath moves in, the breath moves out".

Do this every day if possible, at the same time. The best time is first thing in the morning or last at night: when the stomach is not full and you have not had any substances such as caffeine in your system for a while.

After you can focus the mind and have noticed other effects, working on your visualisation skills will be helpful for your magical work: Dhyana is something you may want to look into.

As you do these things you could save up for the books mentioned above and also get to reading them, or perhaps scour the internet looking for them. But meditation really is a preliminary step which most magical practitioners will recommend.

Yes, I agree with Hadit. Magical "change" can be spiritual. It can certainly change a person's attitude to Life! And meditation is indeed essential!
Every invention and discovery by Mankind began as a thought; an "idea". Magic is all about the eternal human question, "What if?"
What if a I mixed this with that, what would happen?
